Does this allow use with a small flame, in other words as a small torch or only with the tips?

The dremel has a very nice locking mechanism that keeps the flame on, and while it's on the flame adjust knob, allows for a very small or a very adequate flame size. Be wary though when using the torch fla me at is most delicate and smaller size, it has a tendency to blow out very easy. When this happens don't freak or get upset, with your lock still engaged you just restart the automatic ignitor or a small flame Bic lighter and it relights very quickly and efficiently.

How does this product feel? I had to toss my other butane soldering torch because it felt so cheap that I felt that it was going to explode at anytime

I have had several butane soldering irons over the years made by Master and Cooper Tools. They were good and served the purpose. The Dremel model is a well made tool and I must say that this kit covers anything I might consider using a hand held butane torch for. I have to give credit to Dremel in that all of their tools measure up to high standards. As a technician and hobbyist, I do not tolerate crap-tools. This is not a crap-tool. I own three different styles of Moto-tools with the oldest one being over 20 years old. Dremel makes good stuff.

NO, you have to provide butane-pressurized butane cannot be shipped. Filtered butane is best

where do I buy butane, and is it easy to fill?

In the Plymouth indiana and surrounding towns like south Bend and mishawaka, I have found that hardware stores and Phillips gas stations ran by out of town folk whom are very curious and polite carry the best and most affordable cans of butane and even Lowe's carries one brand. All of them work very well in this torch. What is unique about the Drexel is that almost any butane filler fit very well and when the Drexel is full the butane starts to spew out of the filler nozzle letting you know it is full. Many other torches give you no idea whether they are full or not.

Great for times when you need portability away from plug in power

Works great to solder when you cannot use your old standby 120volt plug in pencil solder iron (still my favorite). I have tried a couple of battery (AA OR AAA) models that I was not impressed by. The 18 and 20 volt power tool type are much better, but bulky to carry around vs this butane one. Also has ability to focus heat on bolts and nuts you are trying to loosen without heating the surrounding area too,

Works like a champ!

I had to repair an under-dash wiring harness on a Ford Explorer, about ten hours of soldering. My very expensive tool truck butane soldering iron gave out, so I ordered this one and it did the whole job and just wanted more. It's way, way cheaper than a tool truck soldering iron and works very well.
