Direct replacement.
1996 Ram had no running/parking lights. All other lights worked. Bought this switch/harness combo, and happy I did. I Installed it over the last weekend. Upon removing the old switch, I noticed both the old switch and wiring harness was fried. Not wanting to invest the time in soldering I tried plugging the old harness to new switch. No parking lights OR dash lights. Next day I broke our the old soldering iron and replaced the wiring harness. Everything works like a charm. Follow the instructions. The wires are color coded well to closely match the original wiring. I took pictures just in-case and did 1 wire at a time. Happy with the results so far. Invest in the switch/harness combo just in-case, or inspect them before purchasing.

Completely fixed all of my issues.
Fixed all of my headlight, running light and gauge light issues, in my 1995 ram 2500. Great value and not too hard to do :)

Great Product
Excellent quality switch and harness. Harness has heavier gauge wire than the OEM harness, revealing the original issue. Great repair for Dodge's bad switch wiring after the fact, but if you never want to see this issue again, add relays to your headlights.

Well functioning switch; here's how to keep it from melting like your old one:
I melted two headlight switches in my 1997 2nd gen Dodge 2500. This time I installed the headlight relays from LMC Truck (Heavy-Duty Headlight Harness #55-9505). Draws power directly from the battery. Original wiring draws power through the headlight switch = heat and eventual melting or failure. It was quicker to install the headlight harness than to put in the new switch. I used some marine-grade heat shrink butt connectors to wire the switch in. The wiring color match was unambiguous.
