The Shrinkage Factor
While I think the quality & craftsmanship is excellent on these socks, I am very disappointed in the 'shrinkage factor' on them. I have a lot of wool items...socks, tops, gloves, thermals, etc. I'm used to working with wool. I never put any wool item in the dryer...always lay out or drip dry...which is what I do with these socks. And, I gently wash them. However, with each succeeding wash, which is weekly or semi-monthly, they shrink just a little bit more to the point that I almost can't get them on anymore because they are so small. I even stretch them when they're wet to help prevent shrinking, but they still do anyways. I love the super thickness of them because I walk around the house without shoes and they keep my feet very warm and they don't seem to be wearing thin. So, the quality is good...if you can handle the shrinkage. If you will be washing them every week...they won't last you long. You'll be donating them to some fortunate child.

Bought 3 pair and liked them so much I bought 6 more.
Nice wool socks. My husband's usual vendor didn't have these in stock so we started looking and found Ballston. I bought a single pack of 3 as a trial. They are the same weight (thickness) as his previous pairs. Color is consistent too.He wore all 3 then I washed and line dried them (after tossing on the dryer on extra low with a little fabric softener for a few minutes). They came out great. Great enough that I bought 6 more pair. They fit as expected and stay up without having to keep pulling on them through the day.

Seems like a deal, but you get what you pay for.
I love wool sock and have worn them for more than twenty years. I don't get athletes foot with them. The Ballston brand look like Wigwam, but they are not, the knitting is much looser. The picture shows a 17yr old ragg wool Wigwam in the middle. Ballston is on each side. The Wigwam was machine washed and dried always, and barely shrank. The ragg wool Ballston has shrunk a good bit. I can stretch them back out but I don't expect them to last. The Ballston wool sports socks (bottom) don't shrink but tend to slide down me feet in my boots. You get what you pay for.

This is a great looking and feeling sock
This is a great looking and feeling sock. However, I think they fit a little small. I wear a 9 shoe and ordered an XL (12-15 mens shoe size). I wanted very floppy, loose shocks, but these XL fit very comfortably, not loose at all. All in all, I like these socks, and Im sure they will keep my feet warm, I just wish they were a little larger.

I absolutely LOVE these socks
I absolutely LOVE these socks, as well as the overall company morale and customer service. I have been searching for a long time for these type of socks, and was so pleased to finally find them through Ballston. They are even softer than the wool socks I already owned (not sure of the brand) yet just as warm. I ordered these as an after Christmas present for my three sisters, who have never had wool socks before. Needless to say, their lives (and chilly feet) have now been changed forever. Ballston also makes sure to use minimal packaging, which I very much appreciate. Such a great shopping experience. Four new Ballston fans here! Thank you!

Nice Merino wool knit but hard, stiff toe seams/ends
These are a nice soft, thick, mostly Merino wool 88% Merino wool knit, but the toe seams and ends of the seams are stiff and hard. I tried them on and put shoes on over them and they hurt my sensitive toes. I am returning them for a refund. You would think warm Merino wool socks for this price would have a soft, comfortable toe seam with soft, smooth ends, but they don't. I'll stick with Woolrich Merino wool socks.

So far so good! GREAT COMPANY
I love em. I paid more for others but didn't get any better. The "others" shrank in time even though washed per instructions. The "Ballston's" are too new to see if they will shrink it time. The fit is good, they feel good and stay up. If they don't shrink , I'm sold! on "Ballston's" Should I say I also received a "FREE "pair ?

These socks shrink...a lot!
When I first got these I was pleased, they were just as expected and fit well. I ordered the largest size and it should have given me plenty of room. I have only washed them in cold water, and always air dried. By now, they've shrunk to the point that they are extremely difficult to get on. They do stretch out when worn, but the effort to put them on is really out of line.
