We have been trying to eat healthier and more cheaply. By cooking brown rice once or twice a week and eating it with a variety of dishes, we can do just that. The problem had been that brown rice never came out very great in the rice cooker, and it is so tedious to make on the stove-top. As a result, we always found ourselves using the rice cooker for white rice and bags of brown rice would sit in the cupboard for months unused. Finally I read that most rice cookers are designed to cook "short grain" brown rice, not the more common long grain brown rice. So I tried out Hukkura brown rice, and after years of thinking brown rice wasn't worth the hassle, I was able to make perfect brown rice in my Aroma rice cooker.

I originally bought Hukkura rice in Hilo, Hawaii and made the best poke maki with it. Delighted to find it online - same product, same yummy. Cooks up fine in a rice maker or stovetop. It’s a small grain size and is softer than many strains of brown rice, with a subtle flavor, also less strong than other types of brown rice. Nutty and sweet, takes other flavors gracefully or super tasty on its own. We keep it stocked, and think of Hilo over steaming bowls of Hukkura.

This was the first brown rice we chose to use with our brand-new Zojirushi rice maker and my very picky Vietnamese wife was blown away. So much so she kept asking me if it was really brown rice! A little research will show you that brown rice is being processed, or polished to different stages to keep most of the germ while making a softer grain, yet retaining all of the characteristics of regular brown rice. These kinds of rice come in Japanese packaging, yet the rice is grown in California.This particular one is a great choice and is the only rice that goes into the rice cooker these days. That is, until we find another brown rice even more delicious ;-)

I have never enjoyed brown rice and stopped eating rice altogether. But I recently read that brown rice is actually good for diabetes - it might contribute to lowering blood sugar, so I decided to try this brand based on the feedback here. This tastes nothing like the bulk brown rice I have bought at health food stores and nothing like what you get at a typical grocery. It's easy to cook and is truly flavorful - that "rancid" brown rice taste is not there. The package states that they mill the rice 10% with state of the art technology. I have to say, whatever it is, this is the best brown rice I've ever had and I'm repurchasing.

I just got this delivered this afternoon and cooked with white rice with rice cooker.. and amazed how delicious it is!I've tried several kinds of brown rice, and some of them has weird smell, some of them does not have rich texture to me,but this one is perfect. You don't need to do anything special, you just have to cook as usual.I'll increase the portion of brown rice toward white rice next time for healthy diet!

I have tried many different brands of brown rice, but this is the best. I can cook in my rice cooker according to the direction, no need to soak for hours, and the best part is that it does not smell like brown rice. Because of diabetes, my doctor recommended me to stay away from white rice. With Hukkura, my hunger for rice is fulfilled while controlling my blood sugar. The best!!

Never expected to order brown rice online, but what a pleasant surprise. This brand turned out to be the best ever, in terms of taste, texture and ease of preparation. Unlike most brown rice, which I have cooked in several different ways and still ended up with unsatisfactory results, this brand yielded the most delicious rice ever without any fuss of preparation. I will be ordering this regularly.
