That classic feel
I've seen various incarnations of this franchise forever so i was glad to finally read the original comic that started it all. I love the art style and quirky sense of humor. Too bad it didnt have a longer run.

It's not completely unreadable
Very disappointing reprint. Looks like they were trying to exploit the market for a manga size reprint of this material. It's not unreadable, just not the best format for the art. I'm a fan of most black and white comic reprints, the art is often more vibrant and distinct without the original coloring. A great example would be Gene Colon's art in the Tomb of Dracula comic series reprinted by Marvel in their "Essential" editions. But those are reprinted at the same size as the original comics. I would guess a manga sized reprint might suffer as much as Bucky O'hare's does here.I have some of the old continuity comics, and was looking forward to getting this collected edition, but the art which is still great, even in black & white, suffers quite a bit from the size reduction. The art is very detailed. Some pages are fine, others more frustrating, as the gorgeous detailed art looks cramped and claustrophobic at this size.

Captain Bucky O'Hare
A little smaller than i expected but its still great. I love the artwork. I only wish they would release a decent copy of the series on film.

"Woe and calamity!" What a poor edition!
There's no decent alternative for "Bucky" fans: shell out the extra $10 to $20 for the hardcover, colorized edition or be stuck with the flimsy black & white version.I discovered the "Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Menace" TV show earlier this year, and upon realizing that it started out as a comic book, I had to have it. Foolishly, I tried to save money and went for the 2006 "manga" print, hoping it might replicate the experience of the full-sized edition. Not so. I was astounded by how frustrating the paperback is.Michael Golden's artwork - so intricately detailed - looks positively squished in 5"×7" format, to the point that I had to squint to try and identify details. Also, the quality of production is rather poor: the book feels like a slightly-thicker "Archie" digest and wouldn't last two trips in a backpack before falling apart.Since the book itself isn't the best, it's easy to note some of the artistic and format shortcomings...The book contains two arcs: the original tale leading up to the draining of the mouse planetoid and the shorter story done by Peter Stone, Andre Coates, and Joel Adams. The lapse in continuity is almost as jarring as the change in art style. Also, even after having read the whole book, I still had no idea of what the characters are like: Willy Duwitt's personality is explored the most, but the rest of the crew - Bucky, Jenny, Dead-Eye, and Blinky - rely on stereotypes to the point that any genuine emotion from them seems very much out of place. There really is nothing to do other than try and track down that ever-elusive hardcover print. If you absolutely need your "Bucky" fix, then I suppose this will do. But be assured, the crew certainly has looked better. Poor funding was an issue in the story - it's an even bigger one with Vanguard Productions!

Great book, but I didn't realize that this is a smaller version and black and white
Didn't realize that this is a smaller, black and white version of this story.I have a few single issues of the original run, and they were fantastic! At least now I can finish the story, but I'll be searching for the color version for my collection :(

Great show, Amazing book.
If you were ever a fan of the TV show, and even if you weren't, this is a brilliant little book. It's a compilation of the comic series printed together in black and white, manga style, and I have to say I think the art in here is fantastic. Each page is bursting with detail, and the whole thing is a definetely more concise than the show. Although it's only in black and white (although I believe they may have printed a deluxe version in colour) considering the price I would say it's more than worth a buy even if your just curious to see what it's like. The only downside is that like all good things, it must come to an end.

Righteous indignation
It's interesting to see the adaptations from manic comic style to kids TV show - especially as the TV show as a kid had such a massive influence on my upbringing :)
