Solid performing arcade quality controller! with a mediocre trackball
I setup an arcade/retro console emulation machine with this controller and a RaspberryPie4... The controllers (it shows up as 2) are recognized by retropie right away and work perfectly. There was no indication that the trackball was working, but I found out later that it was.By default, the trackball speed/sensitivity was much too low. Games like centipede, missile command, or marble madness were very sluggish to control until I found the trackball settings in the emulator configuration. These settings will be different depending on the platform your using of course. Once that was sorted out, the trackball worked fine for these games... but it's just not as smooth as I hoped. Maybe with some break-in it will get better, but for now it just feels like there's more resistance to spinning it than I remember from the good ol days in the local arcade. The buttons and sticks are top-notch! They're clicky, springy, and feel perfectly like the arcade cabs I remember. The only issue to keep in mind is that mapping the buttons can be tedious for games that need a custom mapping. This has nothing to do with the quality of this controller though, YMMV depending on your platform of choice. The enclosure is well built with a lock/key and hydraulics to hold it open when you need to open the hood. There is enough room to easily mount a RaspberryPie inside and have some storage room to spare for the manual, button mapping notes, and such. There is a hole in the back for cables. If you run a RaspberryPie inside, you will only have a power cable and and HDMI cable and nothing more. I am considering adding more ventilation for my pie as I notice the fan running high most of the time. The controller board has capacity for more buttons for both p1 and p2 controllers. There are wires from the header pins to spade connectors stored inside making it easy to add additional buttons if you needed to! The included manual details the pinout of the board so you can wire new buttons as you see fit. I tested this with a momentary pushbutton I had lying around and simply connecting to ground and a spare input gave me an additional button that maps lust like the others! Nice.Overall this is a solid controller that I probably could not have built from scratch more cheaply. The build quality is great and everything works as you'd expect. The trackball is a little rough, but works fine (not that many games use it anyway.) I give it a big PLUS for expandability! Finding spare button inputs that will allow me to add more was a pleasant surprise... My first thought was to add one button on each side for pinball type games! If you need a ready-to-go arcade style controller for retro-gaming/emulation, look no further.

I'm lazy =P
My initial planI've always wanted an arcade rig, whatever it was-- be it a full cab or a bartop. I wanted one so bad I literally was going to put a cab together, paint, vinyl, tmolds, install the joysticks and buttons, re-wire everything to my standards, etc for mad cheap but that's a lot to do for a LAZY PERSON LIKE ME then I came across this product by Micro Center! The BuildAs mentioned in other reviews the box is sturdy, the wiring up to par it uses a XM-10 usb controller ( usbhid.quirks=0x16c0:0x05e1:0x040 is needed to differentiate as 2 controllers for retropie). Joystick and buttons are by Baolian. Comes with hydraulic arms for easy access and the fact they laid down 4 notches inside the box to easily install your naked raspberry pi means these guys care about you! I ended up putting in a rpi4 w/512gb virtualman. Works fantastic! My experienceTo every lazy person out there that's always wanted one of these 2 player arcade usb controllers, the build quality and price is worth it! Thanks for saving me time, so I could go straight to retro gaming! Fun fact, I did all this to play Super Pang and Magic Drop III! =)

Made me feel like a kid again.
This makes me feel like I am a kid again in St.Louis at South Public Market in the 80's playing Super Mario Bro's , Pac-Man, Donkey Kong etc. Turtles in Time and other beat em ups has become a household favorite here in 2021 because of this arcade stick. Its sturdy, it feels like an arcade cabinet should and the controls have a wonderful sound just like arcades of the past. This is now my favorite controller to use when retro gaming or any game that does not use analog sticks. Using JoytoKey I have used this for Injustice 2,BlazBlue etc.PSA, the mode "button" is not a button but wires you can touch together to make a mode change using the P2 Pin 4 wire to a Ground wire or you can get an extra button connecting the wires to a button and make a new separate "mode button" very easily. I added the button and put it on the back of the unit where the wires come out, no need for cutting a new hole or reusing an existing button.

Almost perfect arcade-style controllers (no trackball).
Review for the non-trackball version.PROS:* Joystick feels realistic and more freedom of movement (not stuck on square/diamond pattern like other brands).* Buttons very responsive, didn't detect any lag.* Excellent build quality, feels sturdy and durable.* Installed shocks/struts allows easy access when opening for maintenance or parts replacement, includes key.* Rubber feet provides improved traction on tables or desks.CONS:* Not enough tabletop space for palm to rest on, especially when using bottom row of buttons.* Not enough room for two players, we're shoulder to shoulder, could've easily moved joystick and buttons a few inches further apart (like other version with a trackball).* Select and Start (white top buttons) too close to the main six buttons, can accidentally press them which may reset the game.* No instructions included to configure buttons for Retropie/Emulationstation, had to research it (see EDIT below).* Finally, buttons are noisy, clicking sound is loud, don't play in the bedroom with someone sleeping nearby.Overall, I'd still recommend this. It's a lot of fun to play Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, etc. like we used to on a full size arcade! I just hope manufacturer pays attention to these comments and improves their product.EDIT:Button configuration for arcade games (MAME).Top Row (White Buttons): Left = Select, Right = StartMiddle Row: Left = Y, Middle = X, Right = L ShoulderBottom Row: Left = B, Middle = A, Right = R ShoulderPress any button to skip rest of setup on EmulationStation.
