The characters and story line are totally charming!
This universally heart-warming story featuring 'old' and 'young' main characters, female and male. While the exact the scenarios in the story may not be universal, the sentiments created by the book's events are universal. I speak and read both Spanish and English and the translations are good. Recommend this to all who enjoy good children's literature.

Challenge Reading!
The book was a gift for my grandson who lives in a different state. He is 6 and an avid reader. The bilingual books are new to him but a welcome challenge as he has been reading since age 3. He wants more!

Reading, learning to listen, sharing and building memories together!
Loved that our granddaughter who is taking Spanish can now share some of her learnings with her Abuelita!

Cute but...
While I like the simplicity of the message of this book, I wonder how many modern Latina Abuelita's would identify with the one portrayed here. She is stereotypical and in no way resembles my 86 year old mother in law, who moved in with us and was the reason I purchased this book for my young daughters.

A sweet grandma story
Abuelita: Full of Life is a sweet bilingual story of Jose's family and the grandmother who comes to live with them.Since Abuelita (grandmother) came to live with Jose's family, things have changed. She moves into Jose's bedroom, plants a backyard garden, cooks delectable food, reads the children stories and plays with Jose and his sister. Jose isn't sure, at first, if he likes the changes in his life and home, but learns that Abuelita is lively and has special things to share with her grandchildren.Abuelita: Full of Life is about the importance of family. It is the celebration of and the melding of different generations into one household. It is the past for most of us in the United States--and it is a sad loss. The illustrations are inviting and the message is valuable. It brought me back to my own childhood when my great-grandmother lived with us. I remember her knitting, listening to us talk, her stories and most of all the hugs and kisses lovingly given from the rocking chair. And that's a good thing.Armchair Interviews says: Abuelita: Full of Life is a book children and adults will love. Many will feel the yearning of what was and is no more.
