Devastatingly Beautiful!
Unlucky Like Us is the 12th Book in the Like us series, but the second book in what will be a trilogy for these characters. This is a Brother's bodyguard / small age gap / sort of second chance / out of this word love story about 2 people who will fight against the odds to be together.Luna and Donnelly just want to openly and freely love each other and be together, but, life, parents, crime, danger, emotion, trauma and a host of other issues just wont let them get there. From petty issues to seriously dangerous ones they find themselves always fighting against the current but never giving up. When tragedy strikes it starts to seem that they may never get to be the happy couple. After the 1st book left us somewhat devastated, this book picked right up and had me sobbing in Chapter one. The Authors did such a good job portraying the emotional turmoil the character is in I felt like I was right there in the room with her. I was instantly on her side, feeling her distress and rooting for her to get her very well deserved happy... Then a twist that, had I been standing, would have brought me to my knees happened and I was gasping, sobbing and maybe cursing a bit!The emotional journey these authors take you on in this book is incredible. It is so well written, well thought out, detailed (without being boring or drawn out). Its break you down to build you back up kind of fabulous. As always I have to comment on editing and grammar. Its exceptional. The entire book is just very well written and has no mistakes that distract from being able to dive in and surrender to the world of Luna and Donnelly.

I have mixed feelings!!! 3.5 ⭐
Of all the Like Us books this is my least favourite! The end has thrown me off, this installment lacked something for me it was just too much and I feel like everything is still up in the air. So cliffhanger and we don't know if its in anyway related to the story. Its ally of pages to read to feel like the characters are at the same place where they started. Their resolution was small and overshadowed by the cliffhanger. Just too much left unresolved. I didn't cry and laugh as much as I have with all the other books! I hope I don't have to wait a whole year to get the next installment!!

Best Twist & Future Book Set-Up I’ve Read In a While
Let me preface this by saying I am a major romance novel reader. I have read thousands of romance novels and gravitate towards indie authors, especially authors who have fully fleshed out queer characters. I fell in love with this series last year and it’s since become one of my favorites to re-read. But this book brought my love of the series to just a whole other level. Now I’m obsessed. I can’t wait for the next release. It was certainly heart-wrenching and I think many readers will end up crying through it. But for me it was just a very fun read. Lots of action throughout and a bunch of new unanswered plot twists that set-up a promising series finale in the next book (or two - I think they authors haven’t confirmed if the series will have 1 or 2 more books).Be forewarned - it is a cliffhanger. But for me nothing raises my excitement level like a truly good cliffhanger.

There are no skips on this series...
Amazing, Fabulous, heart breaking, anxiety inducing, soul crushing, perfection, like what more can I say..? Krista and Becca Ritchie NEVER disappoint. That twist! THAT TWIST was just... 😲 The continuation of Luna and Donnelly's story was everything and more. Yes, I was heartbroken for half of the book and then just when things are looking up, the pain intensifies 😅. But hey, the pain is worth is for the beautiful love that is shared by those two and the poetic way in which their feelings are written down. I loved getting to see a bit of the other characters and how they are doing now (like lily and Loren, and Loren and connor interact, and Kitsulli, and thatcher and Jane, etc). I wrote down all the easter eggs, let's see how many I get right 😉. I can't wait to read the next book and finally conclude Donnelly and Luna's story cause they DESERVE a happy ending.

Luna and Donnelly forever
It’s been a while since I’ve been in the world of one of my favorite families and I’m so happy to be back! The last few books in the Like Us series had been a bit rough for me, so I went into Unlucky Like Us cautiously optimistic. And I freaking loved it. Still overly long, but I felt like the time and attention to Donnelly and Luna’s characters made it worth it. I loved seeing more of the interactions between Luna and the Cobalts. Lo and Lily still warm my heart. Donnelly remains one of my favorite characters. Farrow and Donnelly’s friendship may be my favorite part of the series. The *second act trope* that happened I actually didn’t mind. Usually I hate that trope, but I didn’t hate it here and I enjoyed the direction the book took with it. I honestly think it fits Luna’s character and personality well. Xander still has my heart and I want him to have his own book because I know it will break me. His and Donnelly’s relationship melts my heart every time. Also, can I say I want a Frog and Quinn book? Because I freaking do. THE TENSION. And as with every book, Charlie Cobalt reigns supreme.

Desire is a beast we’ve let crawl inside our hearts, writhing & screaming & needing to be uncaged
I’m obsessed. Luna and Donnelly. Donnelly and Luna. Sigh. I’m not saying anything about this book other than it is an emotional rollercoaster and honesty it gave me the vibes that the original Addicted/Calloway series used to provide. It’s very LunaDonnelly focused of course, but I absolutely loved diving into the non-romantic relationships in this story as well. It was heartfelt, emotional, funny, steamy, intense and I just gobbled up every single minute of it. My only true complaint is the book is over, but their story isn’t so I’m not so patiently waiting for their last book. Sigh. This definitely needs to be read after Misfits Like Us and I highly recommend reading the rest of the Like Us series in order before as well. I think you could get away with just reading this couples trilogy, but their story starts before their books, so dive into the series.Ok, I’m just going to go wait for more Lunnelly.

I don’t quite know what it is about Luna and Donnelly, but I just love them as a couple, and I am so invested in their story. I think from the moment I came across these two characters, in both scenes where they were flirting, bantering, and in those where they weren’t, I just knew that they would have their own story. The cliffhanger that the first book in their trio left us on had me both smiling and close to tears. I kid you not, this book picked up perfectly and developed their story beautifully. It’s heartbreaking, emotional, and loving all in one, and I truly couldn’t have asked for more.Lunelly deserve everything given to them on this earthly world, Thebula, and many more.Happy Reading!

Zero developmental editing. Childish characters. Awash with toxic classism and factual errors.
This series is driving me mad. Some accessional witty dialogue/banter isn't enough to make up for the overarching chaotic and unbelievable plot arc. It's absolute nonsense at this point, and so awash with errors and plot holes that I cannot believe these manuscripts have ever seen an external content/developmental editor (there are no editors credited in the books).Let me start with a bugbear brought forward from the previous books: Thatcher. Dude gets shot and loses his spleen, but still somehow remains a 24/7 bodyguard, while running the company (while his supposedly closer than close twin brother, plus his boss, run off to Fiji), with zero recovery time. It's absolute hogwash and reeks of toxic masculinity.Speaking of toxic, when is this series going to stop with the classism? It was vile when Thatcher, a bonafide combat vet, had to justify his existence to a bunch of spoiled rich kids, enduring nasty hazing to prove he was good enough for a rich white woman. But how Donnelly, the only other truly poor character in a cast of more rich people is treated in this entire series is just gross. And then the rich people are glorified for it as "protective" and "loving". It's truly disgusting.I've always enjoyed Loren as a character, but in this part of the series, he's vile. How he speaks to Donnelly and berates him at every opportunity isn't cute or entertaining. It's bigotry and cruel. And don't get me started on Farrow the Super Doctor. He's barely qualified and has near zero clinical experience, and engages in zero ongoing training. Being a doctor isn't even his full time job, and we're supposed to buy that he's The Best doctor is every single field? Again, not cute or heroic, just utterly laughable.Literally every plot point in this series makes zero sense. Why would Thatcher leave Jane's detail two weeks before her due date? When the "threat level" is supposedly so high? Why is Loren satisfied with Luna's bodyguard being an 18 year old girl with zero experience? Why did Moffy, so obsessive about safety, leave Ripley alone in a highchair downstairs? Why "the threat" against Sullivan, the most two dimensional and boring character ever, supposedly so high that someone tried to kill her?Can someone explain this mess to me?
