Great to add on grommets to a tarp where you need more holds because of wind.I did not have any issues working these and they seem to be holding just fine.

I needed this tool to attempt to repair a very thick canvas tarp that I have that goes over the top of my hydraulic dump trailer to secure the load it is hauling. The tool comes with the grommet pliers, a hole punching tool with a composite type disc that you put behind the material you are trying to punch the hole through, and a lifetime supply of grommets. There are instructions, albeit they are pretty basic.I’ve never used one of these before, but it seemed pretty simple to figure out straight out of the box. I did look at the photos/instructions that were included to see which way the grommets went on the tool before punching them together.I started out with a practice run on the box that everything came in. The grommet pliers worked fine, but I realized I had everything upside down and the finished side of the grommet wound up being on the bottom of the box flap. Regardless, I felt I was ready to move onto the tarp and try the real job. The punch tool didn’t seem to work the best on the canvas. I got the hole mostly started, but I did finish it with a pocket knife. I put a few grommets in it, and it worked super easy and looked great. it was getting dark and I decided to stop there as I felt it best to try to double over the canvas at the edges and then continue putting the grommets in. That would give it a double layer of thickness, and make it less likely that the edges of the canvas tarp would rip then. I know it will be more difficult to get the punch through and make the holes but I think it’s worth the time.All in all, I think this is an incredibly well-built and heavy duty tool. And operate, smoothly and easily. There’s not a lot to it such a pretty simple to operate and doesn’t require any experience. I think for what you get, the price is very reasonable; particularly since the quality appears to be so nice. I have no hesitations in recommending these grommet pliers, and I’m confident I will get a lifetime of use out of mine.

did not cut through light towel fabric cleanly even when pressing the handle firmly, otherwise an easy tool to use. box the tool and grommets mailed in seemed to have gotten wet prior to delivery; the internal items were damp and the hole punch was rusty

Monies worth, it was just too big for my hands, I should have looked for a smaller one

The media could not be loaded. I have a 4x8 trailer I am using to store some wood slabs in. The only tarp I had that fit is much larger than the trailer so it bunches up and I can't get it to fit snuggly around the boards. I had some tension springs I found for camping and figure I could trim the tarp down and use the springs to keep it tight - it works.The grommet tool is very nice. It's solidly built and has magnets to hold both halves of the grommet in while you position it. Once it's where you want the grommet you just squeeze it firmly and voila, you just installed a grommet. The kit comes with grommets and a hole punch so I started using it, but I had trouble lining up the holes and make a couple off center ones. No biggie for me, but when I reread the instruction it mentioned you didn't need to pre cut the holes. On the next one I did I just put the grommet in place and squeezed like before and there it was. A perfectly centered grommet with the cut out parts falling away. This was in 3 layers of material.This kit came with 150 grommet blanks, the hole punch, a pad for the punch, and the grommet pliers. It makes adding a grommet very easy and fun.I am now looking for places to put more grommets.... just so I can use the tool....lol

I started with testing the included punch, they give you a piece of plastic board to hammer into. I tested cutting into a piece of cardboard, worked just fine. Took the eyelet and crimping tool then applied to the opening I created with the punch, worked just fine. Also tried crimping a new location where the crimping action would create the hole and crimp down on the eyelet. Worked just fine... I do suggests letting off slightly and rotate your angle then re-crimp in several location. When you do this, the crimp is cleaner to me. If you're placing an eyelet in a really giving material, like a soft cloth, I would use the punch tool first... think that will prevent pulling material into the eyelet that is not intended. Overall, really good tool to have on hand and they really give you a good inventory of eyelet with this kit. Would recommend.

Doesnt work well on cloth. Maybe better on vinyl or leather.

Well made and sturdy, this grommet tool works very well on doubled canvas. I didn't need to use the hole punch tool which made putting in the grommets much easier. The leverage of the tool meant that I didn't strain my hands either.
