Feline Reactive
Some of the book was too long , I found myself skipping entire paragraphs some of the chapters were over 10 pages describing mundane things like the long discussion of the car , I skipped it went to the page where the dishes were done, over all it was a creative story line But not one that I will seek out again.

Love this series - want more!
A series that is just cats! All the characters are cats. It is very well written and creates wonderful imagery for me. I love the characters. It is like a mystery series featuring people but everyone is a cat. I really hope the author continues with the series as I want to keep reading about Hettie and her sidekick, landladies and friends. And they love their food and live behind the best bakery in town.

Different, definately!
Well, this isn't your run of the mill mystery. The book and movie references as well as character names are pretty funny. I would have liked to have more of a feline feel -- the cats are a little too human for my tastes. The mystery itself is a real mystery, though, and the writing of it is well done. Going to try the next in the series.

Disappointing.
I really wanted to like this story but I couldn’t. I agree with a previous reviewer who stated this might have been better if read while drunk. The idea for the story was a world where cats are the dominant creatures. The story just didn’t excite or even make sense in places.

Cat detectives solve crimes!
Unlike most cat themed cozies this particular series actually features cats exclusively. In a world without humans detective cats solve serious crimes and get back in time for some lovely pies and cream horns.Hettie and Tilly have realistic back stories and deal with situations grim and dangerous in various ways. The mysteries are quite serious in that cats are killed by other cats. The writer has a talent for word play and puns, which makes the stories a bit more lighthearted.Highly recommended for cat loving mystery lovers!

Ex-hippy hep cat solves unsettling murders!
In a world where kitties wear raincoats and carry umbrellas, you're sure to find charm and a smile. But when the lead cat is a private investigator starting out a new business it's meow! murder! So be drawn in by her tiny office above a bakery (that also offers a pie a day - to keep starvation away) but beware; murder is never gentle and if you are dotty about cats (as I am) you may be distressed about the actualities of her daily profession. But the kitties have soft fur and their curly tale will carry you along as a welcome companion through grave robbing and afternoon tea. A cozy mystery indeed! Give yourself a treat: enjoy a cuppa with bickies as you sigh back in your favorite reading spot. My hearty thanks to NetGalley for this review copy

Her characters are real characters!
My Review:When I started reading this and realized that it was actually cats who were the characters, I was turned off. But this was provided by a publishing house for a review, so I had to at least make an effort to read it. And I did make an effort. It didn't take me long to get over the fact that these were cats having tea and worrying about paying rent and murdering other cats. Ms. Morton jumps right into life with Hettie and Tilly and you might as well be curled up with them licking your paws after tea.And there are no anonymous cats in this book. As you travel around with Hettie and Tilly solving the crime, collecting clues, and tidbits to eat, the author describes the feline residents of the town in such a way that you see each one as an individual. She really creates characters of her characters and I think that's why it works so well. She has a Marilyn Monroe type and a Coco Chanel type. She flagrantly steals from old movies and books for characters and gives her cats real personality. She makes you see these characters easily because you already know something about them and it's fun even in the midst of murder and mayhem. So if you like cozy murders and love cats, give Ms. Morton's Hettie Bagshot mysteries a try. This is the first one in the series where she starts the agency and has her first case. I was provided an eARC of this by St. Martin's Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I am not being compensated in any way. All opinions are fully my own.~ Judi E. Easley for Blue Cat Review

Amusing escapist read, ideal for the times.
First of the series and a good place to start, but all of them could be read as a one off & in any order. Unsentimental, amusing cat based murder mysteries, ideal for when the real news gets to much &you need an escape.

Disappointing even for a cat lover.
I assumed that this was a story about cats in a human world. It is not. It is about a world of cats. I might have been able to suspend my disbelief for a short story, but not for a novel. I gave up.

Boring
I normally like stories that feature cats, but I found this terribly tedious. I won't be reading any of the others in the series.
