Too Many Design Flaws
There were no reviews when I purchased this device, so I figured I’d write about my experience with it.First, some background. We already have a BedJet3 which blows ambient (uncooled) air under the sheets. That might work if we turned the central air down to very cold levels. But I do not want to cool 4,000 square feet of space just to keep one room cold enough to sleep at night. The BedJet3 apparently works for many people judging from all of the positive reviews, but for someone who does not like to sleep in a wind storm with the sheets constantly moving, that did not work for us. Wind, yes. Cool, no.We knew we did not want a “swamp cooler” evaporative water cooling device like most of the bed cooling devices on Amazon, since those don’t really provide much cooling and they raise the humidity in the room which is counterproductive to feeling cool. Those devices might work in arid climates like Arizona, but I don’t expect them to work well in our climate with high humidity. We have relatives who own several of the SleepMe products, Ooler, Cube, etc. They actually do like their devices, but I don’t want to endure all the unreliability, break-downs and repairs they and others have experienced. They have had theirs replaced under warranty several times, but each time they have to wait weeks for a replacement, and now that that company seems to be going out of business or restructured with new owners the prior level of customer service might no longer exist. And they are expensive to begin with. Something reliable and less expensive would be nice. Those systems don’t advertise how they cool the water, but users have reported that the devices use Peltier effect cooling from a solid state semiconductor device. So I purchased this approximately $200 Semiconductor Peltier Effect Bed Cooler device that I’m reviewing. I was immediately disappointed. It took over a quart of distilled water to fill the mat and tank. The tiny opening requires a funnel to prevent water spillage. Although tank was not overfilled, by morning a large puddle of water drained out under the cooling unit. That would have damaged our wood furniture if we had not placed the cooling unit on a tray since we suspected it might leak. Several ounces of water spilled out of the unit, so water must have overflowed back into the tank from the mat despite having the cooling unit elevated about six inches higher than the mattress. Make the mistake of putting this on the floor and you’ll wake up to a pool of water. There is apparently no check-valve to prevent back-flow.There is only one cooling level (labeled Strong). I would not describe the cooling as strong. The manual says the second cooling level (labeled weak) does not cool at all, but only circulates uncooled water. I agree, that sounds weak. With only one cooling level, it could be difficult to achieve a desired level of cooling. The unit exhausts a great deal of hot air into the room. I mean a lot of hot air. This seems counterproductive to keeping the room cool for sleeping. With the room lights out, the unit puts out lots of stray light through its front and side air vents. We could not figure out any way to block the light. Covering the unit would cause it to overheat if air vents were blocked. This is a deal-killer for anyone who needs a dark room to sleep. The vinyl cooling mat arrives folded. The folds do not flatten out easily, maybe they will with time. Water does not circulate in the folded areas. The silicone tubes kink easily and slow or stop water circulation. The areas at the rear of the unit and attachment to the mat where the tubes make a 90º bend are areas where the tubes kink.We were unable to remove the water reservoir cap by turning counterclockwise as you normally would do to loosen a cap. Once we turned it clockwise (as if to tighten), it came off. The water reservoir cap is a bayonet type with no markings for tighten or loosen. The cap turns barely a few millimeters so there is no confidence if it is sealed or not. There are no hose clamps, no quick-release connections or shutoff valves for the tubes. Draining the system without getting everything wet is a challenge. There is no easy way to disconnect the silicone tubes for draining and maintenance which needs to be done regularly to prevent mold and mildew organisms from forming inside the system. The silicone tube slip-fit is difficult to attach and difficult to remove. In general, this is a low quality product. It seems more like a $79.00 product than a $200 product based on the inferior build-quality, cheap components and lack of design and features. The positives are it runs very quietly and being small and lightweight, it takes up little space. Be sure to put a tray under it to catch the water. For me, it has too many negatives to tolerate.

If you sleep on it, it cuts the water flow and does not work.

Item worked , then didn’t work!
I purchased this item for my wife, who gets hot at night, to try to help her sleep. It worked very well for the first two nights, then it stopped working. The water didn’t appear to be going through the unit, which is why it stopped working. All instructions were followed and distilled water was used. Sending back for a new one, which hopefully will work!

Dissatisfied
I had hopes that this would function as it should but it didn’t. Very disappointing!!! The mattress only filled with water approximately 40%. Sorry that didn’t work for me.
