~~Fiction but researched well~~
This is book 4 in the Annabel Tilson series and it is outstanding. It illustrates the manner in which the medical students 'pull together'. This is fiction but it is a well researched novel so it reads like it is true..One thing I thought was so informative to me, was the pressure these students are under ...day by day. The rotation they go through as well as the challenges they face are incredible. A fascinating glimpse into the life of the students.Joe Nixon, a Park Ranger. is hospitalized and it is up to the staff to determine what illness he has...Lots of research must be done in order to ascertain his illness. Dr. Annabel Tilson comes front and center to assist in this medical mystery.Characters are well developed, loved the plot and also the information the author has provided from the knowledge she attained while practicing medicine.Helping others involves more than patient care. It means the resident must learn about their patient, do research and sometimes solve a mystery along the way. Most highly recommended and will read on in this series.

Credible Medical Fiction
As a retired physician, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is credible. The book solves a mysterious disease in a patient admitted to a university teaching hospital. The diagnosis would likely never have been made without the important contributions of inquisitive physicians in training. The medical student, Annabel Tilson, and her colleagues in training demonstrate the importance of the medical history and research focused on a single patient. They also demonstrate the effect a serious illness has on the patient, the family as well as the patient's physician. I was not familiar with the disease that had a "death grip" on park ranger Jae Nixon and never would have thought of it without the important history obtained by Dr. Annabel Tilson and her colleagues. Although fictional, the presentation is realistic and is credible being based on similar rare but real cases involving a newly discovered virus. I am not a fan of non-realistic fiction. However, this novel is credible and does a great job of teaching about this emerging infectious disease. It also demonstrates the importance of getting to know the patient and the patient's environment so diagnostic testing could be focused and not just a panel of common tests. I learned from reading this book. The book may be fiction, but the medical background for the story is credible.

medical drama
This is a great book to read, it’s very well researched and written so that although it is fiction it is very factual! Although being a medical drama it is still an easy to read book, that has lots of drama and intrigue that held my attention throughout. The characters are believable and well rounded, they fit in to the plot very nicely. It’s the first book I have read in this series and by this author, but it is most certainly not going to be the last. If you enjoy a medical drama, then this is the perfect book for you! Although I received a free copy of the book to review via Booksprout I enjoyed it so much I purchased it as well!

Who Knew?
Thank you, Dr. Barbara, for enlightening us to the dangers lurking in our great outdoors. This book is informative .....and frightening as well. Who knew that a walk around the neighborhood with a dog, or a hike in one of our beautiful national parks could result in such mysterious medical issues? As a fan of Annabel, it was nice to see that she’s maturing into a very capable physician, and is making better choices in her personal life. She had me worried for a while there! And I’m adding two new favorite characters: Dr. Enno and Alejandro. The author paints an entertaining visual of these two! You’ll want to meet them.

Little ticks can put you down
Pretty interesting story about interns and one of their rotations. Pressure to succeed, love life, competition between suitors and doctors, mentors helping interns, intertwined with the patients life and conditions, and helping each other. Oh, lets not forget dogs too. I'd read another one in the series.

An enthralling read.
I loved this book because it was written by a knowledgeable author. I liked the descriptions of student doctors, and their training. Barbara pulls no punches when describing medical procedures and treatments. It was wonderful being treated like an intelligent reader, and not being patronisied. The best thing is that it is a thrilling story with great characters.

Not for me
The story was ok but not very exciting, too much medical jargon for me.
