The Ethique Shampoo Bar is a great eco-friendly swap that lathers well and leaves my hair clean and soft. It’s long-lasting, smells nice, and I love that it cuts down on plastic. A solid choice if you’re going low-waste!

I wish I would have found ethique before becoming eco conscious
The Good:1. This shampoo bar is game changing. After just one wash my hair feels like I cut 4-5 inches off and got a keratin treatment. I can’t rave about it enough! I never used to wear my hair down and for the first time I do and am confident wearing it hair down also lol. This is the healthiest, shiniest, softest and the lightest my hair has ever been! My curl pattern is even restoring! Love love love love love!2. The bar lathers up really fast and easily. It requires minimal product to wash my whole head and my hair is armpit length.3. I’ve paired this bar with the guardian conditioner and I’ve tried the bar with zero conditioner. Both ways have still given me amazing hair lol!4. My partner who was convinced I was wasting money on expensive hippie bar soap with a shampoo label also loves this shampoo/company. He loves how he barley had to use it on his head and it lathers up a ton! We’ve been using the bar for one month and his dandruff has gone away.5. They really are eco! Ethique customer service is very friendly and they will answer all and any of your eco questions. They do a great job of making a product that is not only great for the customer but doesn’t have a negative backlash on the environment! They’re also zero waste!6. They formulate their shampoo/conditioner bars without soap. They do this because your hair needs a different pH then your body. The company itself uses soap but soap is not used in the shampoo and conditioner bars for good reason and it truly shows! This is all around a quality product.8. My hair on day 3-4 did get an oily awkward transitional phase but that only lasted about 4 days.7. I’ve been telling everyone about this companies shampoo/conditioner. Everyone who’s bought this bar after I recommended it has told me that they think it’s game changing also! The Bad:1. Initially I kept skimming past these products because they aren’t organic. I came back to look at this company more in depth after I had asked for recommendations in several zero waste groups im in on Facebook and at least 50% of people recommended ethique. I contacted ethique directly and It turns out most of their ingredients are organic. They put sustainability before organic though and the ingredients that aren’t organic are second best. That being said this is still an issue for a lot of people. I really think they should advertise which ingredients are actually organic and which aren’t and why.2. Most of the negative reviews that I read were about the bars not lasting. $16 just for the shampoo was not going to be a feasible monthly buy for me. I have a corner shelf in my shower that is away from direct water but does not protect the bars from moisture. We’ve been using our bars for a month. (two adults using it every other day to every three days) there’s still plenty of product! I could see how this would be frustrating for someone who doesn’t have a corner shelf, doesn’t want to buy the bar storage containers or anyone that just can’t deal with moving the bar in and out of the shower with every use.3. For whatever reason my hair takes almost twice as long to dry sense I’ve switched to ethique. It may be my hair type but I can see how this could be problematic for others. Especially people with very curly hair. If you are concerned about this I recommend getting their sample pack. $16 for samples that you don’t know if you’ll like or not is a bit much in my opinion. I have seen a lot of amazing reviews from very curly haired people for the sweet and spicy ethique bar. The salt is supposed to be helpful. Since my curl pattern is restoring I do plan on trying that bar next myself.4. If I wanted to really complain on here it would be that I’ve legit worried that if ethique ever goes out of business I’ll never be able to be this happy with my hair/shampoo ever again 😂😂😂😂 I seriously 100% love these bars and recommend them. That being said based on the other reviews I’ve read as well as my own personal experience with this ethique shampoo bar, I can see how some things that I stated above could end up problematic for other people. Realistically though, I think these complaints are very convinced based and for me they aren’t a deal breaker.Pic is my bar after one months use between two adults!

Lasts a long time, helps the itch.
The bar lasts a long time and helped my itchy scalp. The scent could be a little stronger, but it's a pleasant limey scent. The only drawback is I have very fine hair and it really dries it out. I use their balancing conditioner bar, and that helps.Good value for the money, will continue to purchase.

Gentle and Effective Soap Bar
I have used this product for a few yearsLathers in my hand perfectlyI cannot use liquid shampoo as it is too concentrated when applied to my scalpEven when I dilute the liquid alternative—it is still too muchI have much more control when lathering the barI love the ingredients—in this product—so soothing to my extremely dry scalpI have a conditioner—purchased online—that has similar ingredientsFor anyone wanting a shampoo—sensitive to your needs—trust me this works!!I would spend restless nights —trying to sleep—unable to —because of scalp itchIf you are hesitant to use a soap bar—like I use to be—I will say that —I lather the bar in my hands —apply to scalp —massage-then rinse—rinse —rinseI use a very wide tooth comb to gently comb through my wet hair as I administer the final rinseI am a senior —with very fine hair— and as I have already stated—have an extremely dry and sensitive scalpJa’Nell M Brenner

Good, not great
I decided to give shampoo bars a shot after making a conscious decision to try to reduce the amount of plastic waste that our household creates. I was drawn to Ethique’s shampoo bars because of the positive reviews, and quite frankly, the fact that it didn’t seem too “hippy-dippy”.I bought a conditioner bar as well, and wound up liking the conditioner more than the shampoo. The shampoo seemed to take quite a few passes through my hair to create suds that resembled those of traditional shampoos, and it seemed soft and to wash away pretty quickly. It ended up lasting me 5 weeks total before breaking away into so many tiny pieces that it became unusable. The conditioner bar lasted longer - probably 7 or 8 weeks. For reference, I have shoulder length, straight-ish color-treated hair that’s pretty low maintenance, other than being impossible to comb without a standard conditioner. After I was done with my first Ethique bar, I wound up shopping around for other similar products, and found a shampoo bar by Whiff that I like much more. There aren’t NEARLY as many fragrance options, but it’s a puck shape, so there are no corners to chip away at the end of its lifespan, and it produces much better suds. It’s also made in the US, which aligns with my goal to shop as close to home as possible. Oh, and it’s almost half the price, which doesn’t hurt ;)I don’t regret purchasing this product. It was a great introduction to the world of Shampoo bars - a world that I hope expands as demand increases!
