Better than what the muggles are using
This is a magic item, which means it has both super powers and also that is a bit persnickety. It works sort of like the classroom sharpener with which you're familiar, but without the tendency to chew up too much pencil when you're just trying to get a sharper point AND the ability (via the little tiny knob on the crank) to customize the pointiness of the tip. This is great (necessary, even) if you're using either Very Soft regular pencils or colored pencils.I watched some reviews comparing several sharpeners and this one felt right in terms of getting into the magical and crazy universe of high-end pencil sharpeners, without breaking the bank.I'm quite happy with mine.

Pin point sharp!
I work in graphite and colored pencil and need a sharpener that can sharpen pencils to a pinpoint point. What is also nice about this sharpener is that you can adjust how sharp the point is. I have bought a couple of other M&R sharpeners and like them all. As an artist I can highly recommend this sharpener.

Made in Germany, so it's not cheap. Looks so nice...
I still remember fondly the crank desktop pencil sharpener my father got for our family when I was a child, 40 years ago. There were four of us, so it was heavily used. I don't remember the brand or where it was made, but it was made of solid steel and was three times heavier than this one. This M+R sharpener has some advantages over the one in my memories: It looks way nicer, and since the base is wider than the top, it's more stable when standing on its own. There's a small nipple dial to set up how pointy to sharpen the pencils. I turned it all the way to the right, to the less pointy setting. A clamp is included. This sharpener is not cheap, but I didn't expect it cheap since it's made in Germany. Buy the cheap ones made in China for gifts, and this one for you.

Great Products
This has become standard equipment at my drawing table. I have used it for about a month, mostly for graphite pencils but occasionally for colored pencils as well. I like the clutch pencil grip and the auto-stop features especially, as well as the fact it produces a consistently sharp point. I also use the Mobius + Ruppert brass hand-held sharpeners. With those, I like the fact that replacement blades are readily available.

Be careful. This is not a German made product
Be careful. This is not a German made product regardless of the brand or what it says on the website. This is a cheap quality sharpener. I returned mine.

Great sharpener
I enjoy coloring and after having collected so many nice pencils, I finally decided it was time for a nice sharpener! This makes all the difference with Prismacolor Premier pencils, which are soft and prone to breaking. It is also sturdy and nice looking on my desk. Overall a great purchase!
