Panini Anytime!
I gave my parents this panini as q gift and they absolutely loved it! They made a scrumptious sandwich on it the first night and loved the way it crisped up their bread! They are excited to make breakfast burritos on it soon! It is very versatile and small enough so it doesn't take a lot of counter space! I encourage you to buy!

My third attempt at panini pressing was a winner! Hint: Use butter!
Just when I thought I was panini press challenged, my luck changed! Truly. I was very excited when my Rae Dunn Panini Press arrived. I am a huge fan of the artist and her products. My husband was the first one to take it out of the box and I MADE him listen to me read the instructions. I mean, how hard can it be to make a panini? Apparently, for me--sorta hard!Attempt 1: Too much filling. There was NO way this panini was going to get pressed using the latch. So, we held it down and it was not the prettiest panini, but it was edible. The browning lines were off and unless you make tiny sandwiches, I found that the press really accommodates one good size panini at a time.Attempt 2: I used rustic French bread that I cut SUPER thin and opted for a less substantial filling--went with cheeses. Even with the skinny bread, it was a challenge to get the panini press flat and latched. Long story short: the panini turned out more like a cracker, with cheese oozing onto the grill, and I had to make my husband eat his. It didn't taste as bad as it looked, and the cheesy mess was very easy to clean off the non-stick grill. After my first 2 attempts at panini pressing, my husband was like "No more panini!" (2 in one day was his limit). So, I Googled "how to use a panini press" and "how to make a good panini using a panini press."BINGO! I learned that I should lightly butter the bread and not overfill the bread. The only thing I'm still not sure about is if that latch on the right side of the panini press is actually to "press your panini down" so you don't have to hold the press down, or to secure the press in the box. I can tell you with certainty, there is NO way you can engage that latch and get a panini that isn't as thin as a cracker.Attempt 3: Total success after taking a 2 day break! I lightly buttered the bread. Let the panini press heat for 5 minutes (used a timer); then I cooked my ham and cheese panini without over stuffing it for 5 minutes, applying a gentle pressure. It was beautiful! Perfectly golden with darker lines! I ran to get my phone to snap a pic and by the time I got back my husband had taken a couple of bites out of it. So, unfortunately I have no picture perfect panini to display as proof of my newfound skillset. As stated in the item's description, the panini press easily doubles as a grill by hitting a switch and laying the top and bottom flat. I won't be using it to grill meats but I will most definitely use it for French toast. I'm just happy I finally figured out the trick to making a panini that looks even a little like the ones I order from restaurants.
