Backer Anti Corrosive Backerloy 27" Immersion Heater Element Fitted With BMST Thermostat with Integral Reset Safety Cut-Out

A quality part with dual safety cut off. The unit is fairly easy to install with all the required parts and wiring instructions provided. Plenty of YouTube videos available for guidance. Some patience is needed if you are removing & replacing an old unit which may have been fitted for many years i.e. get a good tool to loosen off the old unit. The most recommended tool is the Monument 361T spanner which is very well made so it can be struck with a lump hammer or mallet to 'fracture' the corrosion on the seized thread making it easier to loosen off without causing damage. However you should check the accessibility of the drive nut first since other tools are available which may be more suitable fitment. For this size of immersion heater it should be top mounting on the cylinder. Once loosened you will need to isolate water supply to the cylinder and just drain off the cylinder enough to drop the water level down thus allowing removal and replacement of the unit. A rewarding task which should take about an hour to complete !!

Fitted this element 3 times each time it leaked around the top where it joins the tank. Got another element from screw fix, the sealing ring was twice as thick and sealed the first time with no problems.

This is a great product easy to install...but you have to know what you're doing to buy and install.

Copper element heaters are only suitable for soft water areas. For hard water areas you need an Incoloy, Titanium or Anti-Corrosive Stainless Steel element like this one. If you are unsure of your water hardness then check with your local water board. Backer is a quality branded metal capped heater which is so much better than that Tesla plastic capped junk. We ordered this 27” anti-corrosive element as a replacement for an 18” copper element the plumber had fitted in error. It works very well and is great value for money.
