Blu-ray DVD of their 2008 Snakes & Arrows Live by Rush was filmed in Hi-Def and 5.1 surround sound October of 2007 in Rotterdam, Netherlands and it captures the Rush's instrumental virtuosity, complex compositions and raw energy that their fans have come to expect. Rush in Rio was more about crowd's response to the band whereas this DVD is all about the band - a real close up look at what Rush does on stage. This DVD encompasses both 2007 & 2008 Snakes & Arrows tour content.

Excepțional Sound Capture & Camera Work
As a long time Rush fan this review is limited to the great attributes of this live show and how it was captured both sonically and visually, versus talking about how amazing are Rush, which if you’ve ever seen them live you would know for life even if you didn’t become a lifelong fan, which is what I am. And out of full transparency I’ve been a fan since 2112 was released back in 1976, and along the way have acquired pretty much all of their live shows on DVD but somehow missed or ignored this one until recently. With that out of the way, the set list is just fantastic. It is a tremendous sampling of their work through Snakes & Arrows, which is the second album after Neil Peart’s return in 2002, wherein they released Vapor Trails. Some of the tunes are maybe less often played live which makes this show more special. For example, Entre Nous (from Permanent Waves), and Circumstances (from Hemispheres). The sound is really good, which again is coming from a dude with a dialed in 7.2 surround setup. Neil and Geddy’s melodic rhythm making is just in your face. Fantastic. Alex’s guitar may be a bit subdued at times but all of their playing seems so spot on and dare I say - even a bit more relaxed. They are always consummate performers but this one just has a slightly more chill vibe.As for the video it is very well crafted with interesting camera angles and none of the jittery, annoying sequencing and switching around that I’ve seen with other Blu-ray shows. The lighting is augmentative, void of any seizure-inducing moments. If you have any other Rush shows on DVD/Blu-ray and don’t own this one, do yourself a favor and pick it up. You will NOT be disappointed. Rush on!

Best Living Recording of Rush Ever!
Let me preface my comments by saying that I own ALL of Rush's live concerts on DVD and/or Blu-Ray. I also am a musician, myself, and know a few things about audio. That being said, I can confidently tell you that the audio engineering at this show was the BEST of any Rush show. You must get the Blu-Ray. I have never before heard such clarity of recording at a live show. All the instruments (and vocals) are perfectly balanced with volume. The tone is crystal clear. The reason I say to get Blu-Ray version is because it offers the DTS-HD 5.1 which is amazing. For some reason it even sounds better than PCM (which in theory is supposed to sound better since it's uncompressed). The DTS-HD 5.1 seems to make the bass sound poppier and not muffled. This is especially good on songs where the bass is prominent, like Digital Man.I love the array of songs on this one. They brought out a lot of lesser known songs from the vault: Entre Nous, Digital Man, and Mission--to name a few. I happen to be a fan of the 1980s era so this was great. Although, if you're a true fan of the 1980s, you might like the selection from Clockwork tour even more, since it's heavy on Power Windows album. (I was there at the live recording in Dallas, by the way!)Getting to the video quality. This also takes first place among all Rush shows. Definitely get HD on Blu-Ray for the best experience. It's worth it. There is no graininess or bad focusing. The camera angles are steady, unlike some of them from Clockwork tour. The band also seems to have enjoyed this show the most. Right off the bat, Alex plays a good intro to Limelight by holding the chord...as he waits for Geddy. Neil is also really into it. You can specifically see on the song The Larger Bowl that he gets into a groove and starts moving his head around from side to side as he cruises trough a part that really moves.Even the small details on this disc are perfect. The pop menu feature for Blu-Ray is totally easy to navigate and convenient. Again, the best out of all Rush show discs. If you're gonna buy one Rush show, this is it. I can't stress enough to GET THE BLU-RAY VERSION. I know this is a cliché, but you will really forget that you're not actually there in person.

WAY Better Than Standard DVD!!!
I purchased the SD version of this concert when it was released (didn't have BD at the time). While I have no complaints about the SD version - The BD version totally blows SD out the door! It's almost like watching it over for the first time, I swear! The difference in video is great but the audio difference is truly amazing. Other reviewers had complained about sync issues but I didn't experience any of that. It's like you're actually there! It's really nice to have the whole program on 1 disc as opposed to 3 on the SD too. I suspected that Blu Ray would lend itself well to music performances & I was definitely not disappointed to say the least. Those stage hands have to work extra hard to keep the instruments clean as you can see every smudge or fingerprint, kinda funny! And considering that Rush is my all time favorite band (actually had the privilege/luck of meeting them during their "Moving Pictures" tour back in the day), this makes it just that much sweeter. There are some songs that the band played on this tour that I've really missed (Entre Nous, Mission, Circumstances come to mind)... Neil's lyrics have such meaning, he's got such a gift! The 2 names: Alex Lifeson & Gibson Guitars should become synonymous! Even some of the songs that have become too "commercialized" in my opinion (Tom Sawyer for one) had new life to me!If you have a decent HD setup (I have less than $2000 invested in my whole setup - TV included - so it's nothing fancy), and you're a fan of the band - GET THIS BD - You Won't Be Disappointed! Excellent set-list, great audience & awesome performance combine for a "Can't Miss" BD! 220 Minutes Of Sheer Pleasure - Enjoy!I wonder why more "Classic Rock" Artists / Groups (I have disdain for that term!) haven't put out material in BD??? Considering the picture clarity of BD, perhaps their wrinkles will be too apparent?I ALSO WONDER WHY THIS BAND ISN'T IN THE ROCK 'N ROLL HALL OF FAME??? - Definite Conspiracy!

Imperdibile
Molti brani di "Snakes and Arrows" vanno a conflure nel film "Snakes and Arrows live".

Einfach unglaublich....
....was Rush hier zum Besten gibt. The Authorized Bootlegs Ghost Of A Chance Red Barchetta The Trees 2112/The Temples Of Syrinxauf die Ohren.
