Good book to have as a reference. The discussion of some of Monk's choices is wonderful. I don't sight read, but it is nice to have to work on some of the songs I can't hear as well.

My book arrived with a cover that says "C Edition," but every tune is transcribed in B-flat. Must be an error at the printers.That being said, although I'm adapting these lead sheets for guitar, I find the transcriptions to be very accurate. Lots of myfavorites Monk tunes are here and I'm very pleased with the book.This is a fake book, but it is not like many fake books, such as "The Real Book" because it is more than the melody transcribed with changes.These tunes typically have a transcription of what Monk played for the main structure of the tune, so his unique harmonies are there as well.I like the format. I'd give this book 5 stars if it had arrived in the right key.Great book for anyone wanting to study Monk's music.

If you want to play Monk's music, this is THE book so far. It is an obvious labor of love and contains many lesser played compositions of one of the most important and innovative composers in the history of jazz. Using this book I presented a concert of modern arrangements of Monk tunes in Lima, Peru. Instead of playing the Monk standards of like Round Midnight I wanted to present a concert focusing on some of the lesser known music: Oska.T, Introspection, Brilliant Corners, Boo Boo's Birthday, Friday 13th, Misterioso, Coming on The Hudson, Jackie-ing, Monks Mood, Criss Cross, Ugly Beauty, and Green Chimneys. This book did not fail me at any moment.

Could I play the music of Monk on my piano?Crepuscule with Nellie,I think, one of the best compositions of Monk, gave me the idea to write the music down , direct from the record.That was not a good idea! Much complicated than thought!Then I remembered Amzon.com!( and the low price of the articles, because of the strong Euro)Now, I am playing the first page of Crepuscule!.. This is a well put together compendium of Monk tunes, carefully transcribed and explained. As a tenorman I originally bought the Bb book but the C book has some harmony parts which are worth studying. If you want to get some Monk tunes under your belt, this is a great resource, much more reliable than RealBook transcriptions.

Incredible! All his compositions in one place…accurate notations…yes even Trinkle Tinkle an Evidence which is worth the price alone. I have both the bound edition and the Kindle versions that serve me well. And hey all those early Blue Note recordings are in there too. 70 compositions total. Wow.Highly recommended if wanting to study the works of this genius of modern music.

Some notes are inaccurate......

The greatest composer of jazz-tunes, and they are all in this edition. I've been playing "Well You Needn't" for years without realizing I was playing the Miles version and not the original Monk version of the tune until I got this fake book.

Dies ist eine sehr gute Notensammlung. Meine Mitspieler und ich haben sehr viel daraus gespielt. Das liegt natürlich primär an der Musik von Thelonious Monk. Die angegebenen Harmonien passen für mein Empfinden. Über Einzelheiten lässt sich dann immer anderer Meinung sein. Das gilt auf für die Wiedergabe der Melodien.Einzige Lässlichkeit: Die C-Fassung gibt häufig eine genauere Notierung des Klavier-Parts mit rechter und linker Hand wieder. In der Bb-Fassung fehlt das naturgemäß, was aber nicht immer verzichtbar ist, beispielsweise, wenn für das Klavier ein konkretes Vorspiel angegeben ist, das dann in der Bb-Fassung ersatzlos fehlt.Aber ansonsten: Eine Super-Auswahl, die wirklich viel Stoff bietet, sich mit Thelonious Monk zu beschäftig

Molto bello, con i suoi brani più famosi in una bella trascrizione per pianoforte, non solo con melodia e sigle degli accordi come si trovano generalmente. Lo cercavo da anni.
