Black Black Moon one-of-a-kind designs are created with vintage remnant materials circa 1920-1970. Most of the materials used are harvested from retired commercial jewelry manufacturing mills. Black Black Moon designs are the renewal of these materials which were imbedded within a New England economy of the past. These remnants are deconstructed and reconstructedinto more complex, contemporary, and urban designs with a nostalgic nod.Black Black Moon's signature style is oxidized metal, seen with slight variation in every piece. Wood's oxidation technique has been called 'modern alchemy'; the materials are transformed to deep hues and visceral textures by different controlled chemical reactions. Wood also uses found objects sourced from her local surrounds of Western North Carolina, such as bullet casings, deer antlers and raw crystals. The designs she creates from these various materials range from large statement pieces which are ÐnomadicÓ in feeling, to sentimental ÐantebellumÓ designs, to baroque pieces with extreme detail. Each piece is worthy of artifact status, and yet remain affordable for a key demographic of educated women 18-40 years of age. While examining current apparel and style trends, Wood, as anart history connoisseur, conceives of each piece from an extensive knowledge of design history.
