My 11-year-old joined chess club at school and asked for a chess set for Christmas. I looked at a bunch and ultimately decided on this one after reading a lot of reviews. A few of the features that made me choose this one are the internal storage and the magnetic pieces. I also liked that it included checkers. My daughter loves this set! She has told me a few times now how she enjoys playing with it. The chess pieces are nicely made, the magnetic pull is just right so it’s not hard to move your pieces but they can withstand board moves or accidental bumps. The checkers are not magnetized, but they are nice, thick wooden pieces. We haven’t played checkers yet, but they seem like they would be nice to play with also. The board also seems well made, sits flat and even, looks nice and has the letters and numbers along the outer edge. Overall this is a great set. Only small complaint is some of the pieces come out of their foam spots inside but that’s really not a big deal 🤷🏻‍♀️

This board is the quintessential Chessboard (or checkerboard) that memories are made on. Arrived in a nice box in a plastic cover which was nice. This is a classic, timeless design, lightweight but durable pieces made of real wood gets high marks. Magnets work great without making it feel like a chore to move the pieces. Everything is real wood.The storage spots for the chess & checker pieces are all pretty snug and keep things in place nicely while in storage, though a good jostling will likely loosen some of the checkers.Bonus is that it did come with an extra queen of each color for pawn promotions. Super pleased with that.It mimics a higher-end board quite successfully, for a significantly lower price point.Great marks for what it is, highly recommended.

This chess set works great for car rides as the pieces don't fall off the board going down the road. I love that it is organized as well and has extra queens. It's also big enough that you don't knock pieces over too. We'll worth the price for convenience.

Quality pieces, good case/board, and lightly magnetized which helps younger players. The storage for pieces is nice but is not the best design when playing as the storage is upside down and pieces do fall out. It is a good chess set for the price, especially for younger players.

I got this Chess set for my 8yo. It is fantastic. It is so easy to pack away and take anywhere. We know what pieces may be missing because it comes with a designated slot for each. It is the best Chess set for my relatively young children and great value for the money.The kids play with it for hours and have so much fun. It's neutral coloring is nice because my 6yo can get overestimated easily and with 5 kids this set has already proven to be pretty durable as well.

Nice set, the magnets are just the right power to make the chess pieces stay in place very easy. The inlay that puts the pieces back in place for storage could be more snug, which makes opening and closing the set sometimes awkward but it's easy enough to put them back in place and close quickly. Note that the checker pieces have no magnets, although that is probably by design.

For the price, this is a great set to be able to easily grab and take with you on trips and visits. This chess and checkers combo set is a nice-looking set, and very playable. The pine is very smooth to the touch. There are nice clasps on the outside which do not slip open by accident. The play surface is a laminate that is bonded to the wood. It won't peel off. My board had some light scratches in the white squares, but I imagine it will get that way soon enough after normal use. All checker pieces stayed in place pretty well, but I noticed a few of the chess pieces were prone to slip out of the foam holder when the board was turned over, but I didn't find it to be a big deal. There's a bit of black felt material that protects the hinges when the board is upright. The pieces are sturdy carved wood with a thin layer of cork on the bottoms for traction. Each does have a magnet inside. And this does help the pieces to stay put if the board gets bumped.

First of all, I absolutely LOVE that this set is magnetic. My kids enjoy chess, but one of them always inevitably bumps the table and causes pieces to fall, and then arguments begin as they try to determine where all the pieces were. This solves that problem completely. However, there were 2 major concerns. First being that the two halves of the board are just slightly misaligned, making the squares not line up properly in the center. It's not dramatically off, but considering this was a "nice" chess set that cost a little more, I would expect it to be lined up properly. Secondly, when I set the board on the table I noticed a scratching sound when it was pushed/bumped and realized the metal clasps that hold the board shut when not in use extend past the edge of the board when open, and it was literally scratching the table. I had the use a screwdriver and remove them completely or risk damaging my table every time they played chess. It's a shame, because otherwise the board is beautiful and I loved the magnetic feature, but considering the price of this set, I'm disappointed to have to deal with these problems.
