George Hamilton Green's Instruction Course for Xylophone: A Complete Course of Fifty Lessons

Was a correspondence course in xylophone playing in the early 1900's. I have been using it since 1965.

I am not a percussionist so this review is not very thorough. My 14yo daughter's teacher was excellent and used only this book. She polished a marimba piece and earned a superior at a solo festival. Mind you, she started with 4yrs of piano and her mom (me) has a BM in piano.

If this is the kind of thing you can imagine in your Library, you won't be disappointed.

George Hamilton Green's book is excellent !!! Each excercize is clearly explained and rhythms are written out in standard music notation in easy to read print. This book takes you through the basic steps of playing mallet instruments with progressive excercizes from the beginner's level through more complicated 4 mallet playing. Highly recommended in order to develop a good playing technique !!!

I love the George Hamilton Green exercises. I had to purchase this book again since someone stole my copy at a drum corps show. Unfortunately, the way Amazon stores their books, it was dog eared at the corners. It must be Amazon since I ordered two different books from two different locations and they both came to me in similar conditions. It would also be nicer if the book was bound a different way since you have to bend the pages back to keep it open on the stand.So I would say 2 stars for the seller/shipping. 5 stars for the actual exercises/book. This one is engraved, unlike the New Series. They're fun to play, fun to teach and works great on your dexterity skills. My teacher showed me these exercises when I was in high school and I still play them to this day. When I started teaching pit at a high school, I showed my kids these exercises and they loved them as much as I did. These exercises really helped me with double stop / single stroke accuracies.

Nice for beginners and it has basic melodies, which makes it easy to catch on.

des exercices et encore des exercices! Dès les premières pages l' entrainement est efficace et poussé, de petits morceaux musicaux viennent très vite agrémenter les nombreux exercices proposés. Un "plus" pour tous les étudiants au Xylo et au Marimba!
