.co.uk Time to Relax is a three-CD box set from Classic FM which "contains music that has been specially chosen because of its calming and soothing influences". In other words, it is very much like listening to the radio station's Smooth Classics at Seven, but with all the non-calming commercials and talk edited out. There's great music here, though whether one approves of taking individual movements from works as fundamentally different as Bach's Double Violin Concerto in D minor and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5 and lumping them together as easy-listening background music is a matter of taste. What cannot be denied is that the performances are taken from high quality modern recordings on such leading labels as BMG, EMI, Conifer and Nimbus. Unlike many budget compilations, there are brief introductory notes for each piece and everything is properly credited, with such fine conductors as Nicholas Cleobury leading the Britten Sinfonia in Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Greensleeves and Richard Hickox conducting the City of London Sinfonia in Finzi's gorgeous Eclogue for Piano and String Orchestra. In delivering more than three hours of gentle, melodic classical music Time to Relax provides exactly what it says on the box. --Gary S Dalkin

SO RELAXING MY FRIEND FELL ASLEEP
I bought this used but "as new" from an Amazon shop at a bargain price for a close friend who needed something to relax him, it did the trick. What you get is 3 CD's, over 3 hours of well recorded extracts of well known smooth classical music, as you may hear on Classic fm. all beautifully packaged with separate jewel cases and a decent booklet. If this is the sort of thing you're after, then you cannot buy better, recommended.

Looks good, matches the seller's description perfectly.
Bought as a Christmas gift, so recipient's reaction is awaited but it includes the track of particular interest and a great many other masterpieces besides, so am pretty confident it will hit the spot. Seems to me to be excellent value for money.

I actually bought this to replace my damaged copy- I liked it so much, especially the first cd. This is a good compilationof relaxing classic music to chill out to or have playing quietly in the background.

Cheap but defective
I was away when this was delivered and so out of time when I was able to play the 3-disc set. The first and second were OK, the third was noticeably scratched and 4 tracks unplayable. Fortunately had these on other albums. Set very cheap, perhaps that was why.

Not quite music to my ears
As with most CDs you find one or two that you really like. Listened to it and at the end of the week put it in the church's coffe morning bric-a-brac stall.
