Einhell TC-MD 50 digital locator, red

Never really got round getting one of these as most of my DIY work I have worked my way around pipes and wires.I decided that it is time to get one as my diy is getting serious.This product is not too expensive and feels quite solid to hold. The buttons work well.Read that some people felt that they received a used product based on the velco mounted at the back and no battery was supplied. The product I received also had the velcro accurately stuck to the back as well as no battery supplied. Looking at this product on the Einhell website suggests that there is no battery supplied.I think the velcro is important as this allows the unit to smoothly glide against the wall.The instructions are not in English however if you look at the product support on this listing you can download or read an English version of the instructions.Been testing this for a good few days with joists, pipes and wiring. This product seems to be accurate in the detection. It would seem that for each usage you need to calibrate it and it does it's job. This does make sense as it is the surface that can affect the readings. Positive indicator is done using sound as well as a visual indication on the screen.

Poor performance from the start the overall feel/ quality is ok as well as the appearance. Doesn’t look cheap but damn is it dangerous it’s not easy to use it thinks my fingers are metal and won’t detect live wires under any circumstances I would avoid this product massively. I’ve been sent a replacement and it was just as bad so I’ll be returning that too.

Not always the easiest to hold and press scan button at same time but apart from that simple to use.

I have a few Einhell tools, and an Ozito cordless drill (made by the same company), and have always been happy with their quality. However this was very disappointing.For those who returned them because they have velcro on, so wrongly assumed it was already used - the velcro comes pre-attached, so it glides over the wall easily.It's an annoyance it doesn't come with a battery included, but that was easily sorted. I then followed the instructions to calibrate, and soon found myself finding a stud in the wall to attach something to.So why such a bad star rating?I wanted to mount something to a stud in the wall, and despite checking from both directions several times, when I screwed in to the plasterboard, I found there wasn't a stud there. I returned it for a refund.

It's easy to use and understand it would help if the instructions were in English. Used the product on different materials to work out what was what and works fine and accurate.

Should be new but was used and without battery

I don’t usually write reviews this negative, but this is probably the worst purchase I have made relating to DIY. I thought, wrongly, because the brand is German, that this stud finder would be very good quality and easy to use. I bought it because of its functionality, which covers off everything I wanted. But, before each use you need to calibrate it, and even after that it did not find a large metal box when placed right on top of it. The supplied instructions were not in English, and the device shell is made of hard, cheap looking plastic. I am going to buy another stud detector now.
