Well written guide to a rapidly evolving sphere of medicine
DNA is a much used (and mis-used) acronym these days. For the general reader, wishing to dig deeper and understand more about genome testing, gene patches and the direction of modern medicine, "Defy your DNA" could not be a better place to start. It is written lucidly with clever use of analogy: "...Think of genes as library books; stacked on shelves (the chromosomes); in a library (the nucleus) of a city (the cell)..."The reader is taken on a fascinating journey through chapters with headings such as "Medicine through the Millenia", "From Primordial Soup to Personalised Medicine", "The End of Hereditary Rare Disease" and into "The Pharmacy of the Future".This is no dry, academic treatise and Dr Shrewsbury enriches it with personal examples from his years as a medical practitioner. This book is a fascinating guide to a rapidly evolving sphere of medicine. Thoroughly recommended.

Eye opening
This book is eye opening. I've heard before that we can potentially correct genetic diseases, but I didn't know the real world applications and treatments already existed. The book is a fun read and the reader doesn't need much prior scientific knowledge to understand the information.
