Rio Bravo Steelbook [4K Ultra HD] [1959] [Blu-ray] [2023] [Region Free]

Love this because I had loads of John wane films on d v d s but when we moved the wife said they had to go. But now I’m starting to get them on prime so my collection is coming back together again so I’m over the moon with it.

This is about the seventh film of John Wayne I film I bought and I'm going to be guessing a few more

Watched on projector on 8 foot screen first 4k film I have brought. Can't fault it love the duke films and this up with best and in 4k just makes it better with commentary by by John carpenter saw this quite a few times over the years but this best quality by long way,if you like the duke can't go wrong plus rest of cast all great also great soundtrack with Dean and Ricky Singing

I have seen this film too many times to count and still enjoy the simple plot. Having been brought up on westerns as a child this simple story of good triumphing over evil will always appeal. My favourite western actor was/is John Wayne. I also like my Mum enjoy listening to Dean Martin's melodic voice - Rio Bravo song is one of my favourites. John Wayne and Dean Martin , great combination for an afternoon/evening of fun.

A good flim

Bit of an antidote to my usual fair watching modern discs. First of all the blu ray in this 4k set is nothing much picture wise, film grain always present. In fact the picture quality on my old ITV recording is far better but scrunched-up 4:3 ratio. This is a Technicolor full widescreen experience. I watched, no, I witnessed the events in this small Town out West on 10ft projection screen. Immersive indeed.Love the fact that the movie begins as soon as the disc is loaded and ends with a The End, no credits. 2 hours 21 minutes not 2 hours 7 minutes of ITV broadcast (no ads I may have accidently deleted a 'chapter'). 16 subtitles via your Remote control.The movie still works as a direction piece. The use of silence, the use of music, the low close-ups, the showing of detail ‘tells.’ A thinking man’s movie; much time spent thinking. Rich men are the baddies. Old school respect. Plenty of humour. And music. And Angie Dickenson, wow!Extras include a 55 minute documentary on Howard Hawks yet to be seen. Hard to believe John Wayne could ever die. Or that the spirit of the West as shown in Hollywood ever existed.

A must see film if not done so already. Amazing 4k upgrade with the all colours & sound. arrived quickly & well packaged. do recommend.

Meglio conosciuto in Italia come "Un Dollaro d'Onore", per non creare confusione con l'omonimo film di Ford (a sua volta, in origine, "Rio Grande"), "Rio Bravo"di Hawks è un western archetipo di tutto riposo, completo delle consuete e familiari "dramatis personae" e di tutti i rassicuranti topoi del genere: lo sceriffo tutto d'un pezzo, la sciantosa con tutte le aigrettes al posto giusto (qui una sensualissima Angie Dickinson), il vecchietto querulo e ridanciano che fa le veci del coro greco (il solito Brennan), il "greenhorn" che si rivelerà in realtà capace di imprese insospettabili e già più che smaliziato per la sua età, l'ubriacone conradiano che dal fondo dell'abiezione e passando d'umiliazione in umiliazione saprà risollevarsi a dignità umana ("Un uomo si può uccidere, ma non si può vincere", sentenziava Hemingway, che di coraggio se ne intendeva)...Vengono in mente, a noi che fummo bambini anni or sono, le jacovittesche caricature del genere western americano : il tappetto Charlie Maciste che stende al tappeto Cocco Bill, i cattivissimi Kuknass Brothers, l'antipatico dalla faccia da schiaffi che spara nel saloon a chi è senza pistola, i bari di professione, il cinese che fa affari con le casse da morto...Non manca neppure, come nel western rivale per eccellenza, "High Noon", la canzone accattivante: quello stesso " Degüello" che anni dopo sarà ripresa da Morricone per un film di Sergio Leone, il secondo della cosiddetta Trilogia del Dollaro.Insomma: una summa dei temi che hanno reso celebre e popolare il genere western e contribuito alla creazione di un'epica nazionale, da quello del coraggio e del riscatto a quello delle amicizie virili, inaugurato in letteratura da Huckleberry Finn. E via sparacchiando.
