Scandinavian Steam Engines Dvd.Filmed in 1958 and 1959, this DVD records an era when Finland alone was host to an allocation of 795 steam locomotives. It includes station, depot and footplate scenes. As the guest of the Chief Mechanical Engineer of the Finnish Railways, the stunning camerawork of Ian Duncan has captured the following classes in action: 4-6-0s HV1, HK2, HV2, HV3, HV4 and TK3, TV1, TV2 and TK2 2-8-0s; TR1 2-8-2 and PR1 2-8-2T. Pacific’s are represented by the HR1 whilst at the other end of the scale there are 0-6-2T VR5, 0-4-0T VK4, 0-6-0T VR1 and a 2-6-2T on the 75cm gauge Karkkila-Hyvinkaa line. 2-10-0 stoker fired TR2s and 0-10-0T VR3s mix with PR2 4-6-4Ts. The 2-6-0 wheel arrangement is featured in the form of the SK4 class. Locations vary from Helsinki in the south to the far north on the Laurila-Kelloselka line to the Russian border and the length and breadth of the country from Tornio to Vainikkala and Turku to Kontiomaki. Denmark is represented in the form of the Copenhagen local services and seeing the following classes in use: S 2-6-4T, F 0-6-0T, E 4-6-2, P 4-4-2 and Q 0-8-0T. Locations filmed include Klampenborg, Gedser, Nykoping, Naestved and Helsingor. Some scenes from Sweden have been included for historical content, some three gauge trackwork, 3'6" and standard gauge stored steam locomotives along with 2'11" gauge diesels at Vexjo and other scenes such as the privately owned Saltsjobahnen.
