Natural bat roosts are becoming more scarce as the landscape changes. A bat box can help bats by providing a roost in areas where other sites are lacking. This box allows you to provide an ideal roost site for the most common bat in the UK, the Common Pipistrelle bat. Our box includes a slatted landing platform which continues into the house, allowing the bat to land safely and then climb into the nesting box. The natural slate roof is fixed as bat boxes should not be opened (unless licenced). No cleaning is required - debris will fall out of the box to the ground below. Siting Guidelines: * The best place to position a bat box is on a tree. * Ideally, place them in groups round three sides of a tree - bats like to move from one box to another during the day and from season to season as temperatures change. * Put the boxes as high as possible above the ground to avoid predators - some species of bat such as nocturnes prefer roosts at least 5 metres off the ground. * Clear away surrounding branches to give them a clear flight path. * Boxes can also be located on buildings. A good position is under the eaves to protect them from bad weather.
