Colour was more of charcoal not black. Haven't even taken out of box.

We use theses dishes everyday and almost immediately they scratched with marks from our silverware. I waited too long to address the issue from Amazon so went directly to Corelle. They would not stand behind their product. Corelle sent me their warranty that specifically said says the gray markings from silverware are not covered. They tried to send me Bar Keepers Friend to remove the markings. I had already tried that and it did not help. Disappointing.

Have been showing my wife nre plates for 15 years. She finally liked these. They are much more heavy than the standard Correll. Also the almost pasta plate rims are tight in dish washer spaces. Nice. Scratch with steak knives.

Growing up, we ate every meal on Corelle dishes. The porcelain plates, bowls and coffee cups were impervious to damage from a large family with young children. To break one, you had to really work at it and often failed. Countless times, a dropped Corelle dish would clatter to the kitchen floor and be retrieved without damage. I think this is why Mom relied on them. After getting married, a set of Corelle dishes was an obligatory gift request, and the set we received continue to serve. In fact, replacements were purchased many years after the first set, and the quality was identical. When this set of stoneware came available, we received it to outfit our new RV. Weight concerns are foremost when loading gear into a motor home, but the brand Corelle overrode that consideration. Bouncing around in a road ranging RV can be tough on any "solid" plate. We just don't like eating off of paper, so the Corelle serves just fine. The attractive glazed surfaces clean easily and looks great. The upturned edges keep your food from sliding off or scooting away. They also help keep liquids contained. The "peppercorn" color works well with the interior design of our RV and can also be used to augment some of our other place settings. Being a darker neutral color allows for mix-n-match should you find yourself short on one flavor of stoneware. Another attribute is the longevity of Corelle. If you need additional settings, you can be assured that the pattern or color will not be soon discontinued as we have found with other dinnerware manufacturers. These dishes are much thicker than our old dishes, but these are "stoneware", thus a beefier, chunky look. Our set did not include coffee mugs or cups, just dinner and salad plates with matching bowls (4 each). The set was packed well with shaped cardboard dividers to keep the plates and bowls safe from shipping wear and damage. We keep the set packaged as sent when in the RV for the same reason, to prevent road damage. No doubt, these would be just fine, but as attractive as they are, we don't want to risk a chipped edge. We are considering getting more to round out this set.
