Super cute but Metallic taste
I bought this cup for a birthday present to myself. The cup is super attractive. I am very pleased with the look.I just got it yesterday and immediately washed it in warm soapy water. After drying it, I washed it again due to the lingering smell that I assumed was just because it had been boxed up. This time I let it soak for about 10 minutes and allowed it to air dry upside down on an air rack for about 20 minutes. That seemed to work as there was only a faint smell left. I filled it with ice water and all was well. I drank half of the water before bed. It held ice and kept the water cold. I went to bed happy thinking I had the perfect cup for my daily water.(Important note: I always make sure I have ice water on the bedside table before going to bed for a fresh cold drink 1st thing in the morning. So this 2nd paragraph is based on the cup of ice water sitting overnight.)When I woke up this morning and took a drink of water, it was undrinkable. There was a very strong metallic taste in the water. I took the lid off to pour out the water and the metallic smell was overpowering. I washed it again in warm soapy water and set it upside down to air dry. I went back 30 minutes later and the smell was still very strong. The cup is now soaking in hot soapy water. I will leave it for an hour and see how it goes. I really want the cup to work out.I have never owned a real Stanley, so I’m not trying to compare this cup to one. However, I have owned a Yeti cup, and some Ozark Trail cups that never had this problem. I also own a 40 oz. Tumblr knock off that I bought for less than $10 from Temu that also does not have this issue.UPDATE: after letting the cup sit for 24 hours upright without the lid, the smell went away and there has not been any more metallic taste in my water. None of my dbl insulated cups have needed this much time to air, so I’m not sure what that was all about, but the cup is fine now. I really love it. I’m also changing the review to 5 stars.
