Count on buying a sheath.
My rating is for the knife alone.I bought the Rat 3 because there's no Rat 4 that I know of, and it's a legal length for me to carry daily. I got what I wanted, a tough, functional knife, decent size and shape. I always want some serrations to cut cord, rope or webbing in an emergency, This knife is very likely to last me the rest of my life, because I don't act like an idiot with a knife as it's not a pry bar, screw driver, etc., it's a knife. The Sheath. If you know OKC products, you know that the biggest disappointment is going to be the sheaths. Using the same materials and less effort, one could come up with perhaps a half dozen better designs for a sheath. They should simply make a simpler sheath, reduce or pocket the price, because the sheath is so bad you're going to discard it if you plan on regular use and carry of the knife. It's an ugly, awkward design and what's funny is they sunk some money into it, but added a decorative stitching that makes it look like one of those sheaths from a $9.99 import.

A Great Knife .. Fits your hand , like it was made for it. A Must Have , if knives are your thing .
EDC THIS IS IT .........? The most comfortable knife I have ever had in my hand . I teamed this up with the Rat 2 AUS 8 steel folder . For me , this has been one of the best combinations ever . For the harder work , I use the Ontario TAK . For me , this is just an awesome set up . Thank You , and Enjoy the Outdoors , and stay safe .... SEABEE ...

A great knife but grind was terrible
I love the size, shape and weight of this knife. I like the 1095 steel and the micarta handle. The grind on mine was just terrible. It is ground well on one side and barely at all on the other, resulting in a very uneven appearance. In fact if not for the very slight edge on the bad side, I would have said it was chisel ground (ground only on one side and left unground on the other). It is going to take quite a bit of work to put a decent grind on it.Think of the RAT 3 as a project knife. You may have to fix the grind. You'll probably want to buy a better sheath. The raw material is here for a great knife.

Quality control is not good.
The grind/edge on this knife was terrible! Uneven, and dull..not even close to being able to cut a piece of paper..I spent quite a bit of time resharpening this to get it into usable shape..the sheath absolute garbage..,and why wouldn't you at least give one uncoated flat surface to strike a ferro rod for making fire? I haven't even checked edge retention yet because I had to order a new sheath from esse before I could carry it out to use it..im completely baffled by the fact that you can produce, and sell a dull knife..right out of the box unusable. Sad state of USA production when even Chinese garbage comes sharper..BACK TO BASICS..QUALITY CONTROL. Until that gets fixed I cannot recommend this!

Great knife, junk sheath
I would have given it 5 stars but the sheath as everyone else has said is junk. The blade is sturdy, sharp, and durable. I carry it every day. It's not well balanced and tends to be handle heavy. But it cuts and it cuts well. only had it a month but it has retained its edge well. As I said it has become my everyday carry.
