Rio 2016 Olympic Games [Blu-ray]

I Love This
There's a reason the Olympics span two weeks, because there's a lot of stuff going on. The big events that get everyone watching are the swimming, cycling, and the athletics. After that, everything is secondary. Something like a boxing match won't get full coverage because it's repetitive and takes a lot of time. Even most of the more popular events such as the ones I mentioned earlier got cut down because they take too long.Last year, my eldest daughter was old enough to watch the Olympics and she really enjoyed it (as did I). We'd watch it together as much as we could and when it ended, we eagerly waited for the Paralympics. Once it was all over, there was nothing left to get excited about except the DVD and since we bought it a few months ago, we have already watched it all the way through three times (in bits obviously, not all in one sitting!) While there is a lot cut, all of the big highlights are there to enjoy again.I would have preferred more content (another disc or two would have been nice) but I still really enjoy this set. If you want something with more content, check out the London 2012 set. That does have 5 discs and the flow is much more natural. Still a lot of editing because you just can't do the Olympics justice without making it a set with an absurd number of discs but for what you pay, this isn't bad at all.

Remembering Rio
I don't understand all the complaints about the amount of material in this set. 9 hours is a massive amount especially compared to the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 discs which were barely 90 minutes each. This is a great reminder of GBS most successful away games ever. All the British success stories are covered as well as all the other major events. A must buy for any Olympics fan.

RIO 2016 Olympics
Brilliant dvd and very entertaining, but it seems to me, that the track races were sped up when making the highlights the dvd, which spoils it just a little.

I love to keep a record of good events and The Rio Olympics was certainly one of these special times along with The London Olympics in 2012. This is very well put together with narration between groups of all the events during the 2 weeks of the Olympics

A great reminder of those great days in Rio
A great reminder of those great days in Rio.Nice to see some non GB achievements included. Can't understand the complaints. There were three discs of highlights in the London 2012 set.Only difference is that there are only just highlights of the opening and closing ceremonies

A lot of accompanying music
While the sports content is good (though there is an over-emphasis on some sports (swimming especially) with others not even mentioned), the accompanying music playing in the background of a lot of the sporting re-caps made it really distracting to hear what the commentators were saying. We can watch a rowing final or a gymnastics final or a velodrome cycling final without music playing along with it! Just cool it on the jazzy soundtrack to let people hear the excellent commentary, please. All in all, a good DVD but the London 2012 one was a lot better because it didn't have as much silly background music, letting you delve more into the sports and having the sporting accomplishments as the main event.

Very disappointed. The DVD's won't play in a standard DVD player which is what we have. Thus my family have not been able to watch it. When advertising this DVD it should say whether it will play in a standard DVD player or not as that is what most people have.
