La Traviata, one of the worlds best loved romantic operas, and is performed under the stars on a floating, mirrored stage in Sydney Harbour, with the city, Opera House and Harbour Bridge acting as a stunning backdrop.Giuseppe Verdi's captivating music is performed with the orchestra concealed in a studio beneath the stage to ensure the finest amplified sound combines with the superlative singing of the cast. With the singers discreetly miked, the recorded sound is presented here in superb quality. Emma Matthews is continually being garnered with praise;"Emma Matthews could inspire the dead, turning in one of the finest readings of this role Ive ever heard." (International Record Review on Rigoletto)"As Gilda, Emma Matthews is outstanding." (Opera Now on Rigoletto).Includes a glittering Swarovski chandelier illuminating the stage and fireworks decorating Sydney Harbours sky-line, which render this production as something truly spectacular.

A classic 1960 live jazz concert: superb quintet recording.
We hear Dizzy in concert in Frankfurt in 1961 in the august company of Leo Wright, Lalo Schifrin, Bob Cunningham and Mel Lewis. The tunes played are quite long which means that the five musicians have time to explore the tunes which range from the 1920s Ellington classic "The Mooche" (16.05), to Dizzy's own "classics" Kush (15.44) and "Con Alma" (twice, both c 13 min) via "I Can't Get Started" (3.42), "Willow Weep For Me" (4.19) and the be bop favourite, "Oops-Shoo-Be- Doo-Be" (3.55).All three major soloists are on top form and ably supported by Cunningham and Lewis. This is a typical Gillespie concert of the period and 100% enjoyable.A delight from start to finish. Buy this CD and enjoy, then having done so look out for others in the same series featuring different artists. Jazzhaus have done a great service to lovers of good music by releasing the concerts.
