Excellent read
Really good book with great illustrations and charts and lots of interesting information. A few bits I'd not read before. Very good book. I'd recommend it to anyone interested in Arthuriana.

Full of detail
Very interesting and full of detail. Perhaps too much detail insofar as the author debates back and forth the merits of location, date and character. Does not go into much detail on the actual stories.

A good addition to Arthurian studies
An excellent and very comprehensive study although I may not agree with all the conclusions they are well argued and give food for thought.

I beg to differ
Having found Mike Ashley's Mammoth Book of British Kings and Queens very useful, I gleefully ordered his Mammoth books on Arthur and Merlin as I started a new project on the legendary history of Britain.I am so disappointed with the Arthur book. The indexing is poor and does not show several of the knights of the Round Table. Perhaps, when I read the book from cover to cover, my opinion will change. But, for now, I'm not finding the book usefulI've not yet attempted to use the Merlin book., but it looks to be an anthology of modern stories rather than a factual study of the character.

Am still reading it, "Mammoth" is the key word here....
It is big, has copious material. Some probably would not like it as it covers much territory and writings through the ages on Arhur and Arthurian stories, myths, history. It can be mind-boggling, just struggling with the archaic names, Roman, Welsh, Germanic, old English, etc.Problem is I have it on Kindle, but the tables and charts don't show as well, so if you are an Arthurian freak, suggest you get the book instead, just for the above material.

Don't bother with this worthless Kindle book.
If you are using Kindle for PC, don't bother with this worthless Kindle book. Much of the information in the book is contained in charts and tables -- and no where else in the book. In Kindle for PC, all of these images have such lack of resolution that they are too poor to be used. Often the informational content is utterly indecipherable due to poor resolution -- and therefore inaccessible via this format.
