Each short story has been meticulously entered here from interviews with monks handing down an oral history. The stories are thought provoking, feel good, funny, heart felt and inspirational. I read each parable like one of those desk calendar daily inspirational tear off blocks. The stories cross all genres and religions in their inherent value.

This is a collection of more than 150 short stories and legends. The stories are traditionally passed down orally from spiritual teacher (lama) to student. Captured for the first time in English, they show the Land of Snow, mostly through the language of metaphor and imagination.All of the tales have the same thing in common – they are designed to teach in an entertaining and memorable way. Some stories have poetry embedded within them.For readers, each has an introduction to explain the context. There are tales of urban and rural life, royalty and farming, duty and discipline, youth and age, music and mantras, mountains and rivers, novices and sages. Some tell of the origins of traditions, such as the single topknot worn by herders and flagpole sitting. There are comic tales and serious ones, and ones of harmony and hope.

These tales makes you feel about the side of life we aren't noticing. I am so drawn into this world. I feel a little more peaceful. And I have a hunger for more knowledge. That is a good thing.

These Tibetan Buddhist tales give a wonderful sense of the culture as they teach deep Buddhist wisdom. Always wise and sometimes funny, they take us into Buddhist life was lived..

The book was downloaded with no problem at all. But I find the layout a little poor. The tales on the other hand are great!

I fell in love with this book when my Bhakti yoga teacher began telling stories from it in class. Beautiful book with wisdom to cherish - great price and condition!

Enjoyable, and very well done, but I have to say, for me, not as memorable or significant as THE SASQUATCH PEOPLE by Kewaunee Lapseritis.I know, I'm comparing oranges with apples... please forgive this outrageous comment.

This is a compilation of Tibetan and Buddhist tales, similar in a way to Zen Flesh Zen Bones (which I also love). The difference is the language is much simpler, smoother, and accessible. Who would have thought Buddhism could be so funny at times? It's a great way to get into the spirit of things, without laboring over it. I just love this book.
