Scott The Piano Guy's Favorite Piano Fake Book Vol. 2

Easy to follow
I use this book to practice on the piano as a self taught pianist. I find it easier to learn the chords then play melodies and the chord symbol. I play for my pleasure and entertainment and am able to choose from dozens of songs which I love. I like this book a whole lot.

Good but โฆ
The binding makes this valuable book awkward to use. A spiral binding would be ideal.

Good....
Seems like book 1 had a better selections of tunes that I would prefer, but thatโs personal preference. Itโs still worth it.

Piano Guy's Fakebook 2
Really enjoyed his first volume but less so for this one. The first volume's songs were well selected, appealing, and scored more at my level - beginner to early intermediate. The second volume had more, longer songs with more difficult scoring and many were pop tunes which depend heavily on choosing an appropriate keying and rhythm structure for the base chords rather than simply playing the ones that are shown. The result is that the piano rendering of these songs can sound very artificial compared to the commercial arrangements your ear may be more familiar with and expecting. Advice about how to modify the chord notes to create a more correct bass rhythm would be very helpful rather than the chord table he presents at the top of the page. Volume two also has notably more difficult pieces. Working through them is admittedly educational, but I would not recommend this for a beginner who wants to quickly play some songs for friends or motivate a younger person.

Not as good as Vol. 1
I was looking forward for years for another Piano Guy fake book. The first had great songs and actually sounded good in the key of C. Of course, the next statement is my personal opinion, so take it for what it's worth. The choice of songs in this book is poor. In Vol. 1 I enjoy almost all the songs, even though I didn't know all of them. I still enjoyed learning them. In Vol. 2 very few. I don't know how they chose the play list, but they need to do better in Vol. 3. Also, not all songs sound good in the key of C. My advise is to look at the song list and decide for yourself. For Scott: How about pushing us to a book or songs in the key of D. One black note we should be able to handle, and it would open up many more songs.

My Favorite!
This is my favorite piano book. Scott Houstonโs arrangements are easy, but donโt sound like it. Iโm just learning to play with fakes books instead of traditional music & I LOVE this. Itโs so fine to be able to sit down & play pop music right away.

Little more dificult than Scott states
I beg to differ with Scott. I have some skill playing the piano and find Scott's book somewhat difficult to play. Not as easy as he makes it out to be. Personally I think it is better to learn to read notes verses playing a string of one liners and playing chords. I think you would enjoy really playing the piano better. That is my opinion and I am sticking to it. :-) Good Luck to you. Everybody's different.

I love these books...!!
I really love these books from Scott, Great choice of music and I love the way he includes illustrations of all the chords with each piece; it saves a lot of time searching while I am still in learning mode.

An Excellent Second Piano Instructional Book!
This is a truly great instructional book for would-be piano players. Scott's promise in regard to your learning quickly, easily, and having fun while doing it is the absolute truth! I came to it from 7 years of learning to play classical music but longed to play popular music and couldn't seem to manage it on my own. I began with his first book in the series and immediately ordered this second one. I highly recommend his methods and his books! Enjoy!
