TROPICA - Peanut Plant (Arachis hypogaea) - 8 SeedsWorth knowing: The Peanut Plant grows to a bush of about 50 cm in height, produces yellow flowers after 2 months and is self-pollinated. The stalks of the flowers keep growing and sink into the ground, where the peanuts are grown. The peanuts can be reaped after 5 months.Origin: The largest planting areas are in Africa, Brasilia and the United States.Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors from January to October. Leave the seeds to soak in water at room temperature for some hours and plant them in slightly moist seed starting soil afterwards. Place the planting container very warm and water only moderately. Germination time lasts about 5 days and 3 weeks.Place / Light: The plant grows best when placed in a bright spot on the window sill facing West or South. it is only in summer that the Peanut Plant thrives outdoors as well.Care: Since the many ripening peanuts should not hinder one another, a large pot with a diameter between 20 and 30 cm is ideal. Mix a loose soil consisting of 2 parts standard soil to one part sand that should only be watered slightly. An adding of fertilizer every 6 weeks is sufficient. Harvesting and preparation: When the leaves of the plant discolour and wilt, the peanuts are ripe and the plant can be dug out. Spread the peanuts out and leave them to dry for 2 days. Separate the fruits from the „hay“ afterwards. Since the Peanut plant is an annual plant, new plants can be grown in spring by sowing out some of the harvested peanuts in spring. Peanuts left can be roasted in a pan with oil, be salted to taste and be eaten.Winter period: Nothing to care for.Bonsai Suitability: No
