Easy to clean and no smells
At first my pomeranian used this as somewhere to play. I used a pee pad over it ti encourage her to use it which worked but once I removed the pad she stopped using it. We started her going outside training and one day I forgot to put a pad on the floor inside and she used this grass loo all by herself. Hoorah! It looks nice by the window, is better for the environment and even without using the pee odour absorber, it doesn't leave nasty smells. it's very easy to clean.

Nice idea but way too costly to run
*Disclaimer: I was given this item in return for a review and as such, here is my unbiased view*Firstly, the price of this item is very high for what it is; at a price of over £90 at time writing, I just can't say it's worth half of that amount, especially when you consider the associated items needed to keep it running (I'll come to that later). The Pet Loo itself is made of black plastic, the kind that is used for garage shelving or step stools. In it's favour, it is very strong and I have no doubt that it would be more than strong enough to support dogs at large end of its recommended use. Under the synthetic grass the top is channelled to direct urine into the removable tray at the front. The tray itself has a replaceable liner and isn't quite study as the rest of the loo. Price aside, so far so good.In the tray is a packet of urine-soaking granules to stop liquid swishing around (a small sachet, not reusable) and reading through them, the instructions it lists a PetSafe Wee Care cleaner which is the only thing that should be used to clean it, but that isn't cheap. Add to that the replaceable liner has a limited life and they aren't cheap either. The grass itself doesn't look like high grade astroturf, but I guess a thicker top would hinder soak through properties and less plush grass is easier to clean solids from, too.In my case we got it for a cat that had to be caged while recovering, and it worked very well. The caveat being that we have astroturf in part of the garden and he's used to doing his business on there, and won't use a litter tray; a cat that's a stranger to this stuff might not take to it so well. The instructions do explain how to train a dog which I'm sure would be much simpler. So while the actual item and design make sense, the running costs make this something for occasional use only. Which brings me around to the initial cost again - for the Amazon listed price it should come with a spare turf section, some of the cleaner and a few replacement trays. As it is, it's super expensive and incomplete as a package. If you have a cat like us that won't use a litter tray and needs to be kept for a period of time, get some cheap astroturf from a garden centre and cut it to the size of a litter box and put it on top of the litter. It will work fine as a temporary stop-gap, you can have a 'wash and wear' piece at a low cost and can be discarded afterwards without breaking the bank. Not sure that would work for a dog though.I've given it one star purely on purchase price and running costs. However, if you need this sort of thing for a poorly or sick animal, and have the money to get it in the first place, it does work. If you need something for long term or permanent use, then look elsewhere would be my advice.

Ok product but pricey
It is convenient but I imagine difficult to train for most dogs. Mine managed ok but has been trained to go on command on puppy-pads. We use ours on a terrace, I would hesitate for inside use unless other options were not available. The tray we have is warped so the box rocks as the dog shifts his weight. All that said, we bought ours used (returned to amazon) and for the reduced price it does give us a bit more freedom to sleep in on weekends, and the disposable trays, even though expensive, are a better set up than any other comparable product on the market. If the price was lower, and if it sat flat I'd give it five stars.

Good potty training for slightly older puppies
At first my puppy just chewed the turf and the corners of the tray. However, as he got to about 12 weeks and beyond he took himself out to the balcony and started using it by himself. Make sure you start taking your puppy outside to do their business as soon as possible so they associate grass or turf with the artificial turf on the Pet Loo. Pleased I bought it.

far too expensive to maintain.
All you get in the box is the black unit, the grey tray and frosted plastic try. And some cheap looking astro turf. Easy enough to put together. What it doesnt tell you is you need to buy spray and powder for the tray. Im sorry but this has to be the most pointless item for a pet i have ever had to review. Its poor quality, over priced and the dogs hate it! Tried it with 13 of mine and they all walked passed it! I wont be buying these for the kennels. They are better off running in our paddocks. Sorry PetSafe, you have really let the side down this time. Although this is a medium size i dont feel a medium sized dog will easily fit on it. Still looks far too small. And what a expensive toilet to maintain. For the price its being sold at you need to get everything in the box.

PetSafe Pet Loo, Small
The 'PetSafe Pet Loo Portable Toilet, Small' is a cleverly-designed indoor/outdoor toileting area for a small dog. It is basically a plastic box with astroturf on top, akin to cheaper versions I have seen, but it has some innovative features. There are four clips to hold the astroturf down, which is useful if you have a dog who 'kicks' after they go, and also the whole top is slightly tilted and angles down so that the liquid waste drains into a pull-out container which can hold up to two litres. There is also a sachet of gel stuff included - only one, which seems a little scrooge-like of them - which acts to absorb smells and 'make the container easier to empty'. I haven't actually used the gel (am saving it since there's only one packet!) as I have a 3kg neutered female dog so odour and quantity are not really an issue. The size of the Pet Loo is ample for a small dog (see my photos), although with a male dog I suspect that there would be issue with aim if they cocked their leg. With an adult dog who is already toilet-trained it is a bit of a challenge to get them to start using a product such as this (they suggest scenting it with a small sample of their urine from elsewhere), although if you have a puppy it would be ideal. I used the training pads when she was small but this would have been very useful indeed for nocturnal emissions! This would be excellent for someone in a flat with a balcony, for example, then you can train them to go outside. My dog is quite reluctant to use this so far but we are persisting and I am confident that in bad weather it will be useful. The astroturf is a little on the rough side (for durability, I'm sure), and I think it feels odd under her feet. Overall a great idea (if on the expensive side), especially for female puppies.
