It's pretty accurate
I recommend this because I think it provides strong help identifying your skills and capabilities, hopefully your passion and what you really enjoy doing. The research in this book goes back to the early 1920s. The concept is quite simple in terms of using the book; The first portion you go through and determine your personality type. The second step is to go to the back of the book and read the information on your personality type as it relates to careers and interests.Years ago I did this and mine was social work, something I wasn't interested in, at least in terms of passion. Had a lot of changes and now I'm in social work. The job isn't perfect, I'm not perfect, but I'm good at what I do.At minimum, this book is very helpful at narrowing down the identification of the type of work you might enjoy doing.

My First Choice for Career and Self Development Counseling
I borrowed the 2001 edition of this book from the library and was so impressed I purchased the 2007 edition as soon as it was released. I strongly recommend you purchase this book if you want to understand yourself and/or others better.Readers of this book will have the opportunity to understand:1. That there are others like the reader, and that what may seem like a character "flaw" of the reader is a totally normal way for the reader to behave. This alone can improve one's self esteem.2. That there are four different types of temperament and how the temperament impacts relationships and decision-making.3. Their own "Personality Type's" strengths and some problem areas.4. Why the reader, and others, do things the way they do.5. How things change as we grow older. The authors list 10 specific situations that "define" what could be the "ultimate" job for each Personality Type. I have read these 10 situations to a number of high school students and young adults with differing types and in each case the person said, "yes - a job like that would be fantastic".Then the book presents a number of occupations that the person might find enjoyable, gives suggestions on how the person should "Customize Your Job Search" (different for each type of person), various Pathways to Success, and Possible Pitfalls of the type. They then have a chapter on "Putting It All Together" which has "Ten Steps to Creating a Personal Career Plan," complete with questions and blanks for the reader to complete. This is a book that is worth buying and keeping on the shelf, after you have used it, for reference as you deal with others and have to deal with situations where understanding yourself and others might result in a better outcome than if you don't understand yourself and the people you are interacting with. This book will help the reader, or the reader's friends, children, or relatives understand themselves and in fact enables them to improve their decision making process. This book is not intended to be the final step in finding a career or job, but it is the best place I know of to start.I have found it useful to use this book along with:1. Nurture by Nature: How to Raise Happy, Healthy, Responsible Children Through the Insights of Personality Type to help myself and parents understand how to best deal with their children and to help the children to better understand themselves, and2. Just Your Type: Create the Relationship You've Always Wanted Using the Secrets of Personality Type to better understand how to improve my interaction with the people I am counseling. I understand that this is a book designed to deal with, how shall I say it, possibly romantic relationships, but I have found that it helps me understand how my type can interact most productively with other types. I read the appropriate section just before having a meeting with a student and the student's mother and the meeting went much better than my previous meetings and I could clearly see how changes I made, in response to reading just two short sections of this book, really made a difference.

A good step in the direction towards fulfilling work.
I've only just started the book, but I'm really pleased that I bought it! It's written in a style that simplifies a confusing topic. Personality Type has multiple variables and the authors do a good job of explaining the degrees of the variables on one's personality. They use some good metaphors to translate the information. I also enjoy the testimonials of folks with different personality types and how they have utilized their strengths & weaknesses to cultivate more satisfying careers.I know my Myers-Briggs Personality type and it corresponds with the types in this book. But I'm also finding my type is changing based on my age of 42, which is normal according to the authors. They're giving me a great amount of information that I can use to make positive changes. I'm understanding myself better with the information on Personality Type. I think this will pay off in career decisions and hopefully interpersonal relationships (got a Personality Type book for that part of my life too).

My Most Recommended Book over my life
I discovered this book late in my Engineering Executive career. I had experienced most personality types through life's experiences. This book put it all into perspective. With peoples' 16 personality types explained along with their advantages and disadvantages and best fits, it gave me a much better understanding and a new set of tools to fit peoples' strengths and weaknesses into much more coherent teams. And job satisfaction and results soared. This book remains THE one book I recommend to myself, my kids, and my nieces and nephews. If they're reluctant to read it, direct them to the 10 minute personality test and turn the page to their personality chapter. They're sure to be amazed and comforted by knowing that there's 15 other types all around them, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. And no one can be everything. I believe they need to hear that more today than ever before! The aunts and uncles also learn something. Hard to imagine a more informed and tolerant set of siblings and in-laws though.

Alles ding was ich gesucht habe

Know and understand yourself
Whether you are in a job or looking for one, this very clever book helps you see yourself, your loves and your passions much more clearly. This book helps you look deeper into who you are and why certain jobs will bring out the best in you and ultimately make you happier. I love exploring who I am, and I still often dip into this book to get inspiration and I always find something I had not seen before. Life it so short and we need to have the confidence to look at ourselves in depth and then take the brave step of making the changes that will make ourselves happy....by knowing yourself, you will know what career path you need to follow. I just love this book and buy it for friends and family when they are acing a tough time.
