Extract of Barley Straw is a barley straw concertrate, providing a eco-friendly and non-toxic treatment for algae and blanket weed in fish ponds. This Extract of Barley Straw (EBS) treatment from Eco Pond is faster acting than conventional barley straw and is suitable for use in all types of pond. Dosage instructions: For ponds with an exsisting algae or blanket weed problem add an initial 125ml per 4500 litres(1000 gallons) directly in to the pond water. Add a maintenance dose of 20ml per week during the spring and summer To dose as a preventitive, add 20ml per 4500 litres(1000 gallons) in to the pond weekly throughout the spring and summer Tip: During warmer weather it is advisable to increase the frequency of dosing to maintance optimum results. Works... eventually
Wasn't sure what to expect from this product. Many people had recommended barley straw extract to combat problem of pond algae so i gave it a try and waited. And waited. And waited. Then i put some more in. And waited. And waited. What the heck, I put even more in (my pond is ca 2400l; by this stage id used half the bottle). Was about to tip the rest of the bottle in (it says you cant overdose!) when i noticed that although there was still a lot of green algae, it was now a an amorphous mass rather than long stringy filaments. These were quite easy to remove with a net and (touch wood), it seems to be doing it job and the problem is under control. So in summary, seems to work but takes much longer than you might expect. Happy to use again if/when the problem reoccurs.

Removal of Pond Blanket Weed
Barley straw was recommended by a pond expert to remove blanket weed.Although it has reduced the problem the weed still exists and you need to keep on top of a regular dosage.The upshot is you need apply this product early in the springtime before the hot weather to be effective.

Effective blanket weed treatment but takes time.
I bought this product to tackle blanket weed in a small pond and, combining application with physically removing the weed, it did eventually work and, adding a small amount each week is keeping it clear. I think having some oxygenating plants also helps.
