A Marvelous New Ultimate Universe!
I very much feel like this stands on its own as a phenomenal new take on a Ultimate Marvel Universe! That being said, knowing this is what catapaults the rest of the much hailed new Ultimate comics reveals how marvelous of a starting point this really is!The Maker is as scary as every writer has impressively kept him!The new character angles feel nuanced and playful off their classic counterparts! There are high level concepts that haunted me the whole time I read it and found myself sharing to non-comic readers who were also taken aback from them.Additionally the more learned you are on Marvel, the more you will be consistently rewarded in this book!

entertaining story of an evil Reed Richards
To be honest, I’ve avoided reading most anything from Marvel since the 1980s, because too many of the stories were getting stupid and ignoring decades of canon so that some new writer could indulge their own bad ideas. And now, over a quarter-century later, I don’t even understand what’s going on anymore, and the plotlines seem to be getting more and more outlandish. In the midst of all that, I saw a few panels from this series and they caught my eye, and so I picked this up when it was released. It turns out that some origin material that would’ve helped put everything into context was not included in this collection, but nevertheless, I got the basic idea: an evil alternate-universe Reed Richards is tinkering with the world of the universe that these stories are set in (whatever universe that may be) and various parties are trying to stop him. I just just treated it as an alternate-universe story, and as such I enjoyed it. There were a lot of interesting ideas, and dialogue to match. The artwork was generally excellent as well.

An engaging storyline.
Often, when I read these collections, I find myself at some point just wanting to hurry up and get to a stopping point so I can go do something else for a while until I wake up enough to finish the story. Not with Ultimate Invasion (2023).This story engaged me right from the beginning and kept my interest from page one until the last page. The ending was unexpected, yet set expectations for continuation of the story in future offshoot titles. I highly recommend this compilation.

A solid pseudo starting point
Let me start by saying this if you're looking to hop into comics/Marvel with this: Things aren't going to 100% make sense reading this unless you have some pre existing knowledge of who The Maker is. I'd recommend at least reading the wiki on his character before this, as there is *a lot* of history that makes the read much smoother. (I also read it with knowledge of the character, so this is an assumption, odds are you're smarter than me and may be able to get the bigger picture with no issue)This sets up the Ultimate universe so well. I don't want to say much since there are only 4 issues and basically anything would be a spoiler, but this is a really good first move in a much larger game. The plot moves quickly and the dialogue is very well written. The artwork is 👌, everyone's design looks super clean, I really can't think of any negatives as far as the art goes.My one big complaint is that this really should have included Ultimate Universe to really tie it up neatly, it would have been perfect.Overall, it's an easy recommend from me as long as you keep in mind the disclaimer I wrote at the beginning. The Ultimate universe has been great so far and this is the starting point, so it's a must if you're diving in imo.
