Used this pouch on my pistol belt for a SHTF Med class where we practiced stopping bleeding and evacuating patients on foot while carrying a rifle and wearing the support gear (chest rig and pistol belt for me), I haven't used it with a GI style mag as I only have Pmags. Didn't have any problem with my mag coming out of the pouch during movement; it was a pain in the butt to reinsert the mag though, but I understand that's not the strength of this pouch but it is something to think about if you like to retain your mags. Pouch is very light and didn't get in the way. It did have a tendency to move on my pistol belt because I was wearing it over my pants belt with no keepers, if you wore it on your pants belt with a belt loop in between the velcro loops you shouldn't have this issue, I just added some velcro to the inside of my belt and now it doesn't move. Overall, if you're looking for a minimalist pouch to carry an AR mag on a belt, it's a good choice.

If you ever have to do tactical reloads, one handed reloads - or really any reload... forget about it. I am VERY disappointed with these. Nearly impossible to get the mags back into the pouch. Thankfully I found this out in training and not in a real-life situation. I threw them out.

Impossible to get mags back in so have a dump pouch, great retention though
