What a joy to finally find authentic Scottish rough oatcakes - made without palm oil and wheat flour! The Clearspring Organic Traditional Oatcakes are toasty, crumbly and perfect with a runny Brie or Extra Sharp Cheddar, smoked salmon, avocado, egg salad, sardines or a bowl of soup. Made with olive oil, they are crisp and healthier than the famous brands made with cheaper palm oil and wheat flour. Although wheat flour does stabilize the texture so that oatcakes are not so delicate and fragile, it also takes away all the crispness and oaty taste! These are wonderful. Typically, I love the oaty crunch and flavor of oatcakes, with its slight touch of sweetness. These are not the oatcakes I remember; these are oat crackers, and tasteless oat crackers to boot. Maybe I should have taken particular note of the packaging which clearly states: free of... sugar; they ain't lyin', folks! If you want a platform on which to build a tasty something, this may be what you're looking for as it contributes nothing to flavor, only texture.

Salty, addictive, simple. I like to keep them around for a snack between meals. It’s hard to find food that I’m not allergic to, so I’m grateful that this is out there.
