How to Teach Beginning Ballet: The First Three Years

As a veteran teacher I found this book really interesting. I thought at first she was going to go in depth about the pedagogy of dance, but didn't really. I felt that the progression of steps were a bit fast. It would take my girls at least 2 years to complete all the steps she lists at a competent level. The girl in the photo at the 3rd year of training was close to 11 or 12 not the 9 that I had envisioned. I really liked the photos of correct and incorrect placement of the foot, posture and arms. I look forward to showing them to my students so they can tell me why it is wrong. However, I do not feel that this delves into the developmental milestones that children make. There fore making appropriate choices based on this information. Also, I think that the terminology is Cicchetti as it was not familiar to me with my RAD and Vaganova training.

Great book. I really appreciate the sample combinations and introduction to shorthand. Very helpful in guiding class structure for begining dancers. Nice photos to illustrate properly executed technique. Very helpful quick guide for how to set up your studio and troubleshooting.

excellent book, the title says it all! exactly what one needs, it was a good reminder of everything I already knew but written in a great user friendly clear way!

This book was intended to be a gift for my whife's birthday. She is studying english and she teaches dance classes.It met my expectations, helping her to better understand and learn dance terms and glossary. Great!

Great for new teachers

Great book for teaching ballet. You have to know the different methods of ballet however as if you have learnt RAD then there are modifications and variations. You need to be adaptable. Great book though.

Es muy dificil a veces explicar a un estudiante cosas que para ti resultan naturales, posiciones...sensaciones...este libro te ayuda a hacerlo y ademas te da claves para corregir aptitudes que sueles pasar desapercibidas por mucha atención que pongas en tus alumnos, nunca des nada por hecho...y este libro es perfecto para ello. Una gran ayuda para profesores.

バレエを指導する方にとても有用なテキストです。最初の3年で基礎となる大切な事柄を丁寧に無理なく教えていく方法が書かれています。日本にはこうした指導に関する本がないので、やはり洋書で学ぶしかありませんね。本当にいい指導のアドヴァイスが載っていて、大変勉強になりました。
