Give This One a Chance It Will Grow On You
This show is really good and grows on you as you watch more episodes. I usually take exception to spending time on the characters' personal lives in mysteries or crime dramas but here it made them more believable. The characters grow on you and the mysteries are engrossing.

Great mini series.
I love all those Swedish mini series impossible to find in the USA. My favorite was "the bridge", copied by the French (very good too) and the Mexican (boring). But this Arne Dahl is one of the best. The team of policewomen and policemen has to solve a case, or two, and in the meantime, their family life suffers because they work 24/7.I highly recommend it and I am so addicted I ordered season 2 yesterday!

Excellent Swedish police drama.
Great acting, intelligent, complex plots and sub-plots, occasional humor, characters you care about. The episodes revolve around Team A, an elite police force in Sweden headed by a smart older policewoman. The main characters were recruited from all over Sweden to work on difficult cases involving murder and other serious crimes. Unlike some other Nordic crime shows, the country itself didn't play a huge role e.g. few shots of gorgeous scenery, etc. but focused on the characters and plots. I recommend these movies for all of the above. In Swedish with English sub-titles.

Typical Swedish quality
As my title indicates this is a good solid quality series BUT yikes!! it is soooo slow,It is true to the novel which is a plus over the typical U.S. series which so many times only shares the title

Four Stars
Well done series, not far off from the books. My husband dislikes the primary detective, but I don't.

Excellent Show
Another excellent European crime drama. I thought it would pretty hard to come close to Unit One...but this show is an equal match. I am about half way through this season and I love it...well developed characters and superb actors.

PEOPLE TO CARE FOR, CASES TO INTRIGUE
A handpicked unit is created to tackle Sweden's most challenging cases. How many of the team will survive as they confront the slaughter of financiers, anti-Semitism, child porn, drug trafficking, a serial killer so obsessed with torture and mutilation?Welcome here superior Nordic Noir. Five discs, each containing a case divided into two feature-length episodes. Even addicts of murder mysteries may be hard put to anticipate the outcome of some of these investigations, the plotting so intricate and ingenious.Even more involving is portrayal of the team itself. Initially it seems a bizarrely chosen lot. (Included are at least two mavericks, a scholarly type surely more suited for deskwork than action, another a bit paranoid and accident-prone. What hope for a woman among these? And what about the hefty one who appears more brawn than brain?) Undercurrents abound. How long before tempers flare? How wrong can one be, first impressions so misleading! Despite flaws and complicated personal lives, all meld and deliver the goods. As more and more is revealed, most viewers will increasingly care what happens to them - especially when lives are at risk or when tragedy strikes.Despite violence and disturbing themes, there is humour and much team interplay to enjoy. Also there is a touch of mysticism. It should seem out of place but works perfectly. What are viewers to make of the office cleaner who appears for but a few moments in each of the cases? When so much else is down-to-earth, he seems not quite of this world. His enigmatic observations may puzzle but afterwards are realized as most apt. His actions sometimes cause eyes to widen: how did he do that?Yes, that caretaker, so briefly seen, adds interest to a series which also has lots.Great. Many thanks to the reviewers who steered me in this direction.

15 hours of entertaining Nordic Noir
Arne Dahl is a Swedish Police drama following a group of 8 detectives assigned to solve the country's toughest cases. In theme, the series is much like "Unit One" (which I thought was better than AD, really a superb show). The main difference is that in Arne Dahl a case is covered over 3 hours on each of these 5 discs which allows for more depth in the stories, which is good. Each episode interweaves the personal lives of the Detectives along with the crime so that by the series end, you've formed quite an attachment to a few of them. I can only give this show 4 stars because of the 5 cases; 2 are great, 2 are just 'okay' and 1 was just too confusing to be satisfying at the finish. This show is certainly worth your time if you like 'Nordic Noir' as much as I do, its just a notch below "The Protectors" (Danish Secret Service) and "The Bridge".

MY FAVOURITE GREAT STORIES GREAT CHARACTERS
I have little more to add to all the other comments apart from I loved this DVD.I have bought all Scandinavian series sets and this one stand alone.I LOVED IT. I have just order the second series regardless of the negative comments surrounding it.I believe it will be enjoyable all the same. It is often hard to follow up such a brilliant first series. All the characters were compelling.I enjoyed it as much as all the other series even more than "the Killing" which was brilliant even though the Lone Wolf type Police Woman actually got on my nerves. Her character would not be tolerated in the real world of Police Officers but it was her character which made the Killing so good. I also loved "the Bridge" but enjoyed ARNE DAHL far better. I WOULD SAY IT IS MY FAVOURITE SO FAR.

Excellent Scandinavian police drama
Excellent Scandinavian police drama, good characters, good stories, but paints a bleak picture of their society, season two just as good, unfortunately seasons 3 & 4 are not available with English sub-titles which is disapointing as it makes them unviewable.
