Great toy!
I think this is one of the best toys out there and worth every penny that the expensive toy stores sell for. I was thrilled when I saw it on Amazon for much less. It plays classical music from several composers and the music doesn't sound like that clanky music box variety. It sounds like it's coming out of my iPod. My 6 month old has figured out that you have to touch the face to get it to play the music. This toy peaks her interest more than the other toys I have purchased for in the past months.

THIS IS WHY IT PLAYS BRIEFLY
I received this as a shower gift for my son...who turns 14 in a couple days. I don't remember who gave it to me, but I wish I could. I'd like to thank her, though in a way I guess I do because ever since, this is the toy I give to all new Moms I know. This toy is more than a toy. It's not just entertainment, but a brain builder as well. And it's really meant for younger than 12 months (3 months, I believe) because of the way the baby interacts with it.It's design is similar to classical conditioning. With this toy, the baby touches or kicks (action) something on it, and s/he gets music and/or a light show (a response) from the toy. The music/light show stops, and it's up to the baby to do that thing again to hear the music or see the lights. In this manner it's building neural pathways while providing entertainment. Action = response - if I do this, then that happens. If the music continues playing, the baby's focus drifts away. Here, the "entertainment" is brief, drawing the baby's attention and inviting the baby to interact. The action required is minimal; even merely bumping it brings the response desired - entertainment. The baby learns s/he can do the required action to get the response desired.I had this in my son's crib when he began the martial arts phase of growth - kicking and punching. He'd lay on his back, "walking" and flailing in midair like a turtle stuck on its back. He wanted to move! He was probably around 3 months at the time, and this is where we both learned how the toy worked. When he kicked it, quite by accident, it did its thing and caught his attention. Then it stopped. And he waited. And I waited. And we waited a little more. So I moved it, it did its thing, then stopped. Again. Then he kicked again, and his foot hitting the mattress made it do its thing. And he watched. Then it stopped. So he did it again. And again, and again, smiling the whole time. He figured out how to get what he wanted, and to do it independently. He graduated to actually kicking the toy, then, once he could roll over and play on his belly, a whole new world opened up through using his hands. He learned how to get different songs and lights by touching different parts, and how some parts didn't give the show but had other interesting textures and sounds, thus developing more complex pathways of action = response, among others like communication and emotion. He loved, loved, loved this toy. He only began to lose interest once he became mobile, and by the time he was walking, this has served its purpose. This is why I feel this toy is better served toward the infant to crawling-ish stage. It's designed to be a starting point for interaction. By the time they become mobile, babies move on to things they're not supposed to, like baby powder and litter boxes.

Oh so soft and fun to play with.
My grandson loves this toy. The music is beautiful and fun. The nose lights up and the teether on top is perfect. I didnt know what to think about it, until he grabbed it and began to play with it.

The best baby gift
I'm a pediatrician and have chosen this as my preferred baby gift for family and friends. The kids love it for a long time. Initially they just look at it and a caretaker can activate it to play music. As the baby develops, they learn to turn it on themselves. The quality of the music is terrific. This is not a tinny music box! I was disappointed when it seemed to disappear from the stores. So I was thrilled to find it on Amazon.

Well .. It's Ok
This toy plays short symphony's of music like Peter and the Wolf etc.. and lights up when music is playing. BUT the baby, well I have to press the nose of the sun to activate it. My 7 month old baby smiles and likes the toy but once the music ends the fun does.Like I said it's Ok. It's well made the fabric is soft and music is nice. FYI- Barnes and Noble was selling it for almost 60 bucks I got it on Amazon for around 20ish. Just a heads up.

Crib toy
Got this for my daughter for Christmas when she was 6 months old. Loved it. Fast forward today and she is almost 2.5 and it still is in her crib and she still will turn it on occasionally. Nice music, orchestra quality, I only wish the songs were longer, they are a little on the short side.

Pretty good, wish it played longer songs
My baby loves this. It plays music, has flashing lights, and different sensory things on each petal. I love that it plays some classical music even if they are only little snippets of the songs. My only complaint would be that it doesn't play the music for very long, He isn't to the point yet where he understand how to hit the nose and start the music so every couple minutes someone has to walk over and push the button. It has two different settings but neither of them play continuously for more than 1-2 minutes. Once he figures out how to play the music himself it will probably be better.

This is a great gift that will become your child's favorite long after they've left their cribs.
Our little girl had this since she was four months and never outgrew it. The music is beautiful, the colors are bright and cheerful. We could always tell when she was stirring and run to her side. We decided to put it away when she turned seven and hope it will be a keepsake for her and her offspring.
