it's just so much fun to read
Worth every penny. Even if you never cook one recipe out of this book (which you should), it's just so much fun to read.I do have to disagree with some of the other reviewers who mentioned it's not worth your time if you don't live in Australia. Sure, there are items we can't get in the states, but Maggie really knows how to teach...and she's so passionate about cooking that you're bound to learn quite a bit by watching her (YouTube is great) or just reading through this treasure trove of recipes. Why's it so expensive? Probably because it wasn't published in the US (for shame...). The stitchery on the cover is gorgeous, the color photos inside the book are beautiful and the book weighs over 5 pounds and is well over 700 pages. Maggie said it's a labor of love and I completely agree with her. I bought one for my mom and she jokes that she never opens it without gloves. Me? I already have a few stains on some of my favorite recipes.Don't let converting metric to standard intimidate you. That's what Google's for - plus, I bought a digital scale on Amazon for around $12.00 that measures into grams, kilos, pounds and ounces. Easy peasy.

Maggie Beer is Australia's culinary Queen.
I love this book all the way from its gorgeous embroidered cover that makes it feel like a family heirloom all the way to the gorgeous recipes. There is (literally) a recipe for every occasion in every season as well as an excellent section with all of your basics (like pastries etc). There are also some recipes that are not so basic and not so common... squab? Yep. Pheasant? Yep. Rabbit? Yep. Nice to know how to cook all of these even if they are not every day fare.

Nearly useless unless you live in Australia
This book is absolutely beautiful. The binding, detail and craftsmanship are second to none and this book deserves a place of honor in your cookbook collection for that reason only......I love how it's organized, by season and main ingredient and that's one of the reasons I ordered it.But beyond that... this book is utterly useless to me and I'm about as likely to perform open heart surgery on myself as I am to actually prepare any recipe in this book with any degree of success.Unless you live in Australia, don't bother.Unless you've been wondering what to do with that leftover pig's head you have in the fridge (with tongue or without), don't bother.Unless you want to know how to whip up a batch of yabbies (yes, I had to google it, too), don't bother.Unless you are good at converting all measurements from grams and ML's and your oven temperatures are labeled with a C, don't bother.Unless you are looking for recipes that are made with everything BUT normal household ingredients, don't bother.

Review of Haggie's Harvest
The book is the book. It took a couple of weeks to arrive which seems a lot for airmail. Also the package was enormous. I'm hoping that the large cost of freight wasn't due to the inordinate amount of packaging provided. Otherwise I'm happy with the service.
