Speak & Learn Scottish Gaelic (2 CDs)

Very basic, just audio pronunciations.
Haven't gotten too far into it, but I thought this would be different. It appears to be mostly just words for 2-4 lessons, then phrases for 1 or 2 lessons, then more words, etc. The problem I see is that the phrase lessons don't build on words previously learned. Lesson one, for example, is on animals and you listen to them say the English word for an animal followed by the Gaelic word pronounced twice for the same animal. You barely have time to say it once each of the two times before the next animal. Lesson 2 is Classroom words, like Teacher, Bookcase, Crayons, then Lesson 3 is Classroom phrases, but only two of the phrases used any words from the first 2 lessons (dog, notebook).I haven't tried to learn another language this way before so will continue to try before giving up on it, but I was hoping for something different, perhaps with photos to illustrate words and later quiz you with. I printed out the PDF phrase book from the CD which had both the English and Gaelic words listed, but I have to write in my own pronunciation to study without the CD.I will definitely be looking for something else soon, but will continue to try to listen to this to at least familiarize myself with how different words sound compared to how they are written. As an Outlander fan and a decendant of Scots, I would really like to learn this language!

Needs Written Component
The CDs have long lists of English words with the Gaelic words and pronunciation. I mistakenly thought there would be some kind of written material accompanying this. It’s important when learning a new language to understand the foundation, which can only be outlined in writing.

Not your best bet for beginning to learning Scottish Gaelic
Being a novice in learning Scottish Gaelic, I've looked at a number of items that say they will good to begin with. This one form "Speak and Learn" is good if you have already had tutelage in the sounds of the vowels and consonants and their combinations as there are diverse ways of pronunciation at times. This starts with single words in a category and then to sentences concerned with that subject which can be good but the words are said rapidly and move quickly to the next. The PDF is a long list of what the dialogue on the CD's is and Helps when listening but when trying to use it when not listening you're left wondering how to pronounce the words as there is, as I stated, no guide to hownto pronounce them. I'd thought to us it when driving but can't read and drive at the same time. It'll be a help but not a first or second choice to get in my opinion.

OK, yes the pdf id on disk 1
Good for basic vocabulary. Worth the 12.95 and $0 shipping. This is NOT a $300 language program. Take it for what it is.FYI, the pdf is on Disk One. Open the actual pdf file on the disk using the computer operating system. Do NOT use Media Player to locate a pdf. Media Player menu only shows the audio files.

Would like program that starts with how to pronounce the letter combinations
This language has many letter and vowel combinations that English does not have. Would like to start with that then continue with pronunciation of those then to continue with words. This does not have that background which I I sort of useless

Do not recommend.
It's okay for learning "some" Gaelic, but you'll have to buy a different program to actually learn the language. This just teaches some words and a few phrases. I don't recommend because you can get the same learning from a FREE AP.

Disappointed
Unfortunately the CD has gaps and skips so you pick up mid lesson off and on. It's hard to know where you are. I am really sad about it since I took Gaelic lessons years ago and was eager for a refresher.

For intermediate students
I view this product as appropriate for intermediate learners, not beginners, because it presents vocabulary without the structure of syntax and grammar. Vocabulary is a fine thing indeed, but much better when framed by a sentence. The CDs were a good buy and they were quite easy to use.
