Simple, Fast, Effective
This charger provides the facility to charge, discharge and charge cycle AA and AAA cells. Each cell is charged and managed individually, so you don't run the risk of some cells being under-charged or over-charged when they are charged as a group. There is no ability to vary the charge current, which would have been a nice option. However, the currently set current presents a good balance between charge time and battery longevity. The charger is also good at avoiding over-charging of the cells as it remains dormant once the cells are fully charged, so you don't have to worry about leaving on the charger for a bit longer than required for the charge.I've run through a number of charge cycles across a range of different cells on this charger and it has worked very well every time. It's nice to be able to charge from just one cell alone, up to the full eight as required.

Youshiko pure brilliance
Size and weight were a surprise, nice and chunky, looks built to stand the test of time and a bit of abuse. Well I have 100 AA and AAA rechargeable batteries. Many are new, others unknoan condition, this unit soon detected faulty items and they were discarded. All others were fully charged and returned to service in Xmas and Garden Solar lights. The charger works a treat and has recovered some very tired batteries back to a great working condition.Oh yes my old charger went straight in the bin, it was causing more issues than its cheap price afforded. I was never happy with the performance of rechargeables, now I understand why, the charger is the important factor. Buy a great one not a good one.100 batteries charged in one day, 16 slots independently processor controlled, pure genius.Love this charger to bits.Mike

Almost certainly what you need, if not what you want
Doesnt charge fast. But it has taught me that fast chargers aren't the way. I've thrown away loads of rechargeables over the last few years because my big name brand fast charger felt they were faulty. After becoming suspicious I researched online and bought this machine. It immediately charged 8 batteries that my fast charger didnt like.I then ran a "refresh" cycle on the one battery that the Youshiko didnt like either...and it was fixed.Hurray for Youshiko. Get one of these and loads of spare batteries. Then the slow charge cycle won't bother you, and it will be cheap and more environmentally friendly in the long run because you won't throw half your batteries away after the first 10 uses or so.Also - there have been some complaints about the instructions. Mine came with a tiny booklet which didnt explain everything (Refresh for example) but was good enough.

Great for bulk recharging and easy to use
I already have two advanced 4 slot AA chargers, so was looking for something that could recharge a lot of AA and AAA batteries over Christmas. The charger ticked the main features I wanted - Independent charging per slot, medium charging current and automatic termination. The 500mA was of particular interest as I normally charge my batteries at 500mA with my existing chargers and the vast majority of my rechargeable batteries bought over the past 10 years are still working fine. For recharging, it's about as easy to use as it gets - Just slot the batteries in and plug in the charger. The charger gets warm with all the AA slots filled after a few hours, but not excessively hot like my past experience with rapid chargers. With 2400mAh "Ready to use" type Ni-MH AA batteries, it takes about 6 hours to fully recharge. The "Refresh" feature discharges the batteries first, but is best carried out overnight as it can take 5 or more hours depending on the charge state of the batteries. This button needs to be held down a few seconds to activate, so there's no risk of accidentally bumping it.Over Christmas, this charger really proved useful. I have 30 LED candles as tree lights, each taking an AA and many other decorations that needed around 18 AAs. When the batteries ran out after about a week, I put 16 in and 8 in the other two chargers before heading to bed and put the rest in the following morning. By 4pm, the batteries were all ready to use, whereas in previous years I was recharging batteries nearly every day of the week over December.I did however run into two minor issues with the charger. The first is I had the odd AAA Ni-MH that kept giving an error. The affected AAAs charge fine in my 4 slot chargers. The second issue is if I load the charger with barely discharged batteries, it takes a few hours to top them off. This makes me wonder how much it's overcharging these compared to running the lengthy Refresh cycle that fully discharges them first. My 4 slot chargers have no issue topping off batteries, taking as little as 30 minutes.

Great AA/AAA battery charger
Like most, I have loads of little devices and lights that use both AA and AAA batteries and I'm forever having to charge them. My previous charger only had 4 bays and regularly would refuse to charge some of my batteries when I knew they were okay. This charger is extremely well built and has 16 individual bays. It has charged every single battery I have thrown at it so far. The LCD display is also great. If you're searching for an AA/AAA battery charger then look no further than this one. Highly recommended.
