Okay so I don't want to give a low star review based on a logistics issue- but I placed the order for this and it never showed up. I had to cancel and get a refund-However I ordered another pack of the mixed cover 5×8 journals and they are exactly what I was looking for. Perfect page amount, feels comfortable to write with pen or pencil. Pefect thickness for the leather bound binder I use. I havent tested them in the field but will eventually see their durability.... overall 5 star, will order again

I wanted a larger notebook than offered by the leading brand of notebooks "Field Notes" These 5x8 Field Notebooks, by Field Books, fits the bill perfectly. The quality of these notebooks is good and the 4 pack is a good value. I purchased these to place into a leather notebook cover that I am making. If I can find these with more pages (more than 40 sheets), I would probably get those instead, but having 4 packs will make it easy to swap out a book full of note for a new one. I purchased the lined version and the spacing between the lines if perfect for my writing style.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of these little notebooks. They are a great size for scratching down ideas or other notes. The paper is thicker than those typical back to school notebooks you'd find at the drug store. In fact, I use one of those Pilot Frixion gel pens and they don't bleed through the page. I am also constantly erasing things which requires a good amount of rubbing with the rubber point to create friction. That doesn't compromise the paper in any way either. The cover is also thicker than I expected as well. I expected the book to be a bit more floppy, but it's firm which is nice. I sometimes flip the book over so the back side (with no markings on it is face up) and use it as a mouse pad. It works great.All in all this is a simple quality product that I want to buy more of. I think I'll try the smaller size next time for other kinds of notes.

I have used these Field Notebooks in a wide variety of places for recording my field observations - Costa Rica, Yellowstone, and Antarctica to name a few. They are large enough to be able to take and keep good notes, but small enough to easily tuck in a backpack, camera bag or duffle. I also enjoy sharing them with friends as gifts when they are leaving on a vacation - helping to reinforce the importance of study and reflection when traveling! This is a lightweight, easy to pack notepad that is flexible to accommodate being packed in baggage going to remote destinations.

The field notebooks are the perfect size for creating a daily log about activities, personal notes on tasks completed and people with whom I connect, a dated log of expenses, thoughts and observations about situations, and many more things. I use a cover for the field notebooks, and I carry it with me everywhere I go. The price is good. They store easy for quick reference. I cannot say enough about the fact that they are perfect for me!

The notebooks are great! What was not was the packaging - it consisted of just one layer of plastic wrap causing the edges to be damaged in shipping.
