Arte Legno Real Olive Wood Chess and Checkers Set - Rough Cut - 15" x 16"

Husband loved it. He’s a carpenter. It’s going on our coffee table for display when not being used.

It’s a little smaller than expected and the pieces are not that finished.

While the board itself is beautiful, the checker pieces that came with the board were made of very thin, light weight woods like popsicle stick material. The chess pieces were made of heavier wood and nicely carved but the finish in them was cloudy and blotchy. For the price, I expected better playing pieces. I had to buy other playing pieces for the set.

Came with cracks in it already. I know that wood cracks over time if not oiled correctly, but seemed a bit odd that they would send one with existing damage. Would have been nice to have one that was in good condition from the get go that we could oil to keep from cracking, especially for the price!

It’s beautiful and unique

That the squares are too tiny even though they had room to make them bigger. Those involved in making these chess board lack imagination and prefer to save a nickel rather than doing something right. We keep moving the adjacent pieces when trying to pick up one piece to move it. 1/4 of an inch on each side of the squares would have made a huge difference. I would not recommend it, it's too frustrating to pick up the other pieces however careful you are when playing. I am sorry I bought it.

I bought this set with the intentions of both playing on it and displaying it. The rough cut design and construction of the board is a solid 5. The pieces themselves are adequate, but not consistent in finish. Some are glossy, some are dull. And I had to “modify” a few pieces to make them stand straight/not wiggle. But the inlay playing surface is the weakest point here. The tiles are of different shape, size, and not all square. And any gaps are filled with putty. When looked at from a few feet away, its everything I wanted/expected. But looking at the playing surface from a playing standpoint is disturbing. If the playing surface wasn’t an OCD nightmare, and the pieces were more uniform, would give a solid 5.
